After going undrafted in 2018, Kendrick Nunn signed a contract with the Golden State Warriors, but was released October 12th, just in time to find a home with the Miami Heat. The 24-year-old rookie from the University of Illinois at Urbama-Champaign showed out with 40 points in a preseason game against the Rockets and did not disappoint on Wednesday night. Darius Garland made history on Wednesday, as he became the first player born in the 2000s to make his NBA debut. Now that we all feel old, let’s look at his game. Simply put, Garland struggled. He only managed eight points (3/9 from the field) in 32 minutes of play, but he did do a little bit of everything, by contributing five assists, two rebounds and one steal. Ja Morant, the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, impressed in his NBA debut with a solid outing against the Miami Heat. Morant added four rebounds and four assists to his 14 points on Wednesday night. The Murray State product known for his athletic ability put those skills on full display. He had one particularly impressive finish in transition. The Grizzlies may have lost 101-120 to the Heat, but Morant looks to be a solid building block in the rebuild efforts for Memphis. PJ Washington elected to spend an extra year at the University of Kentucky and it clearly paid off in his first game, where he set the NBA record for most three-pointers made in an NBA debut! Many wondered where the scoring would come from the for Charlotte Hornets in 2019-20. Washington said look no further, by converting 7/11 (63%) of his three-point attempts. Tyler Herro is regarded by many as the dark horse candidate to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award. Wednesday night, he looked every bit the part against the Memphis Grizzlies. Herro managed 14 points, eight rebounds and one assist to put up alongside two steals. The former Kentucky Wildcat also managed to break the ankles of Grayson Allen. The third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, RJ Barrett, had a debut for the New York Knicks that has fans absolutely buzzing. Barrett managed to score 21 points on 9/13 from the field. Barrett did not shoot well from three-point range, but he still converted 33% (1/3) of his attempts from deep. Barrett added to his debut with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
