With control of the series on the line, the Philadelphia Phillies came out firing and outlasted the San Diego Padres, 4-2. Kyle Schwarber hit one out into the right field bleachers in the first at-bat of the game, and the Phillies never looked back. With a chance to go up 3-1 in the Padres vs Phillies series on Saturday, can Philadelphia take advantage or will San Diego even the series again?

This MLB betting preview for the NLCS MLB Playoffs Padres vs Phillies Game 4 includes game info, starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for tonight’s postseason matchup.

    Padres vs Phillies Starting Pitchers

Padres: Mike Clevinger (7-7, 4.33 ERA)
Phillies: Bailey Falter (6-4, 3.86 ERA)

    San Diego Padres Preview

Once again San Diego’s bats fell silent when they were needed most against Philadelphia. The Padres scored just earned run in Game 3 and have scored just two total runs total in Games 1 and 3. This offense is simply not performing to the level they need to be at. Even though the Phillies don’t have the most consistent offense themselves, the Padres can’t win games with their current production.

The Padres’ pitching during Game 3 wasn’t great but it is hardly at fault for their recent loss. The bullpen once again was solid, giving up just one hit over the last 2 1/3 innings. With Mike Clevinger on the mound for Game 4, the Padres will need him to be on top of his game. Clevinger has a 13.50 ERA this postseason in one start that didn’t even last three innings. If Clevinger can’t at least keep San Diego in the game until the later innings, San Diego will have their backs against the wall heading back to California.

    Philadelphia Phillies Preview

The Phillies did exactly what they needed to do in Game 3 by getting on the board with the very first at-bat. The Padres’ offense is struggling mightily this series so if the Phillies can make San Diego play from behind, they’ll have a good shot at winning Game 4 as well. When Kyle Schwarber, Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper are all producing at a high level, Philadelphia’s offense is almost impossible to stop.

With how good Aaron Nola and Zach Wheeler have been this season, Ranger Suarez has largely gone unnoticed. On Friday night, Suarez shined bright and looked like a true ace. Suarez only went five innings, but he also only gave up two hits and one earned run. The bullpen was able to finish the game off and they now have nothing to lose going into Game 4. Bailey Falter may not have any postseason experience to this point, but if he gets run support early, he may be able to manage to get the Phillies a 3-1 series lead.
