If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 17 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.
If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”
The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup.
Teams Used:
- San Francisco 49ers

New York Giants vs. Indianapolis Colts
If Indianapolis continues to lose games, they may be in a prime position to draft a C.J. Stroud or a Bryce Young. Judging by the team using Nick Foles, I am going to guess that they have moved on from Matt Ryan and Jeff Saturday already. In the fourth quarter alone, Saturday is getting outscored 90-9 after taking over. Winning this game makes no sense for Indianapolis, as they need to start their team over. Winning this game does mean something for the Giants though. They can come pretty close to locking a playoff spot up with a win here against the Colts.
Last week, the Chargers found success bringing pressure at Foles, something that the Giants may fall in line with, as they are the team that blitzes the most in the NFL this season. Indianapolis also has not been great at blocking this year, as the offensive line ranks 32nd in passing blocking.
On the offensive side of the ball for the Giants, this feels like a game where Brian Daboll should just tell Daniel Jones to make a play. Obviously, Saquon Barkley will be involved, judging by Indianapolis’ 28th-ranked rushing defense. A team that surrendered two rushing touchdowns to Austin Ekeler last week. Look for the Giants to get the run game going early and for Jones to work off of some play action and quarterback runs.

Washington Commanders vs. Cleveland Browns
Washington needs to win to secure its spot in the playoffs. If Washington loses one more game and the Packers win out, the Packers can sneak into that seventh spot. Before they take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18, Washington has a relatively easy matchup this week with the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns have recently been eliminated from playoff contention and really should not be playing for anything in this game. Players look uninterested in playing and, to be frank, Deshaun Watson has not been great this year. That falls in line with how Cleveland has played this year in his return, scoring just 15 points per game since Watson returned. I don’t think that it matters who starts at quarterback this week for Washington, between Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz, because I think that Washington’s run game and defense should be enough to get them this win.
Value Pick of the Week: Washington Commanders

Los Angeles Rams vs. Los Angeles Chargers
This one may seem like a little bit of a head-scratcher, but the Rams are coming off of a week, where they just scored 50+ points. What is going their way in this game though is that the Chargers have already made the playoffs and cannot move up. There is really nothing for the Chargers to play for anymore. Austin Ekeler is questionable with a knee injury and Derwin James is in concussion protocol. Those are obviously two of the biggest weapons on each side of the ball for the Chargers. If either/both don’t play or are limited, the advantage is to the Rams.
You would have to imagine that these last couple of weeks can act as some sort of audition for Baker Mayfield too. Who knows what is going to happen with Matt Stafford next year, so having an idea of what your future could be at quarterback early is never a bad thing. Mayfield is someone who will take an inch if you give them a mile and I don’t see why the Chargers play fully invested in this game. I know it could be risky, but I think that I like the Rams to win this game.
