In a Week 2 divisional battle, we have the Detroit Lions headed to an empty Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. Both teams suffered their share of injuries during the first week, but it’s the Packers that are clear home favorites in the NFL odds, after a dominant showing last game, making them one of the more popular NFL picks of the week.

Lions vs Packers Overview
The Lions are coming off a complete collapse in Week 1, in a way that only Detroit is capable of. They gave up 21 fourth quarter points to Mitchell Trubisky, losing the game by four in an upset, according to the NFL odds. This week, pessimism is running wild in Lions country, with the injury report being the biggest headline out of Detroit.
The cornerback room in particular has been hit by the injury bug. While first-round pick Jeff Okudah practiced in full on Wednesday, Desmond Trufant and Darryl Roberts did not practice, while Justin Coleman was put on IR. On offense, Kenny Golladay is still not practicing, as he nurses a hamstring injury. Detroit needs all hands on deck for this divisional matchup, but it looks like they will be shorthanded.
The Packers, meanwhile, are coming off a dominating performance in which they had the ball for over 41 minutes. The lack of a pass rush and weak cornerback play is what doomed the Minnesota Vikings. Looking at this week’s matchup with Detroit, could we see a repeat?
Aaron Rodgers looked absolutely dominant last week, and his pass-catchers reaped the benefits. However, Green Bay did not escape without injury either. Right guard Lane Taylor was lost to an ACL tear, while the newly-paid defensive tackle Kenny Clark is not practicing, as of Wednesday, due to a groin injury.
With no home crowd, this could be the strangest game in Packer history. Also, the Lambeau Leaps could turn dangerous, especially with the rate that the Packers scored in Week 1. Given the current injury reports, it’s a pretty safe assumption that Green Bay finds the end zone often on Sunday.

First Half Home Team Total Touchdowns: Over 1.5 (-130)
Matt LaFleur has always been good at developing game scripts to start games. Because of this, I am expecting points on the first drive. Last week, that meant a field goal. Aaron Rodgers gets more freedom after the first drive, and I trust him even more to light up the Lions. Again, last week then resulted in 19-second quarter points. Look for the Packers to score early and often, though there may be no Lambeau Leaps to be had.
Bottom Line
Much like last week when I picked the Packers, Green Bay is facing a team that struggles with their pass rush, while also having weak cornerbacks. Last week, they gave Trubisky more time to throw than any other starting quarterback. This is a bad combination when facing even Trubisky, so imagine what a good quarterback like Rodgers could do. You don’t need to have too much creativity to imagine it, because you can look at the Packers’ win last weekend. Let’s see them cover these NFL odds again.
Pick: Green Bay Packers -6
