Monday night’s Game 3 between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers turned out to be one heck of a pitching duel. Much to the surprise of the MLB betting public, the Giants’ Alex Wood got the better of L.A.’s Max Scherzer. This series between the teams with the top two records in baseball during the regular season has certainly lived up to expectations thus far. The betting odds like the Dodgers to win tonight’s matchup at home and force a decisive fifth game on Thursday.

San Francisco Giants Preview
Despite being massive MLB betting underdogs coming into Monday night’s Game 3 contest, the Giants managed to shock the baseball world once again. A solo home run by Evan Longoria proved to be all the offense San Francisco needed in securing a 1-0 victory. The Giants only had three total hits in the game, but their pitching staff held the potent Dodgers lineup to just five. Alex Wood lasted just 4.2 innings as the starter and three Giants relievers joined him in pitching the shutout. Buster Posey and Kris Bryant had the other two hits for San Fran in the win.
Gabe Kapler will put the ball in the hand of Anthony DeSclafani as his NLDS Game 4 starter. The right-hander won 13 games during the regular season and posted a very impressive 1.07 WHIP. He actually faced the Dodgers head-on six different times during the year. While the majority of those were shorter starts than preferred, DeScalafani got the better of the sixth and final outing. He allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings on that occasion.
Los Angeles Dodgers Preview
What would the MLB betting odds have been coming into this NLDS that the Dodgers would be shut out not once but twice? Probably quite long, to say the least. After Los Angeles seemingly woke up the bats in their Game 2 win, they fell silent again last night at home. It really wasn’t the big guns for the Dodgers getting it done either considering the fact that Albert Pujols had two of the team’s five hits on Monday. NL Wild Card Game hero Justin Turner had one hit, as did catcher Will Smith. Max Scherzer was rock solid over seven innings, but the lone mistake to Longoria ultimately saw him take the loss. On the bright side, the fact that he pitched so deep into the game means that the Dodgers’ bullpen will be well-rested for tonight’s must-win game.
At the time of writing, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has yet to name a starting pitcher for tonight’s Game 4 matchup. Given the must-win nature of this MLB betting contest, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go back to Game 1 starter Walker Buehler. The only starter yet to pitch in this series for L.A. is right-hander Tony Gonsolin. He would be the other likely option for tonight’s Game 4.
Update: Walker Buehler was officially named the Dodgers’ Game 4 starting pitcher late Tuesday afternoon.
