For most NFL players, the biggest day of their careers is playing in the Super Bowl. While that is the case for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, two star Eagles players have something a little more special to celebrate. Both Cooper DeJean and Saquon Barkley have the unique distinction of celebrating their birthdays during the Super Bowl.
In the midst of his greatest season as a professional running back, Barkley will turn just 28 years old during the Super Bowl. Cooper DeJean, the standout defensive back from Iowa, who is enjoying a very productive rookie season, will turn 22 years old during the Super Bowl. Both players are expected to play vital roles in the game and will both need to be at the top of their games to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cooper DeJean, Saquon Barkley Make History With Super Bowl Birthdays
While playing in the biggest game of your career on your birthday is cool, it becomes even cooler when no player in NFL history has ever had a Super Bowl birthday while playing in the same game. To take it one step further, being able to share your birthday with your teammate at Super Bowl LIX has to be a really cool and fun feeling. We have seen memorable performances on big days from players in the past, so can DeJean and Barkley be the next two to etch their names into history?
For Cooper DeJean, I am sure that this year celebrating his birthday is probably very different than last year. Everyone who has gone to college has a few nights to look forward to – your first night as a freshman, a big game against your school’s rival, and your 21st birthday. I know for myself, my 21st birthday was one of the most fun nights of my life. Anyways, for DeJean, like many other college students, his 21st birthday took place during the college school year. Who knows what he did on his birthday, but one thing is certain, it certainly cannot match up to playing in a Super Bowl.
For Barkley, I am sure that he is as pumped to be celebrating his birthday during the big game as anything he has ever done. Comparing this to DeJean… when you are out of college for a year, you still celebrate your birthday pretty heavily, right? But as your 20s progress, your party days and your birthday become more and more low-key. I am guessing that Barkley has not really hammered it very hard on his birthday in the past few years, but if the Eagles were to beat the Chiefs during the Super Bowl, that birthday party is going to be the best of his life.
DeJean, Barkley Play Major Roles in Super Bowl LIX
Having players with their birthdays during the Super Bowl is cool and all, but the two players in this game who are celebrating their birthdays are no scrubs. The Eagles need Barkley and DeJean to be at the top of their games if they want any sort of shot at winning Super Bowl LIX. After spending six productive, but unsuccessful years for the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley finally has the opportunity to display his skills at the highest level in the biggest game. This Philadelphia Eagles offense is predicated on their dominance from the offensive line and run game. For Jalen Hurts to be at his best, Barkley has to be at his best. We have seen Barkley take over in the playoffs this season, totaling 442 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in the team’s three games. If he can continue this dominance, the Eagles should avoid those third-and-longs that the Chiefs defense has preyed on over their dynasty run.
The Philadelphia Eagles have also put together one of the best defenses in the NFL this season. While much of that is predicated on the play from their front seven, the secondary has been very good as well. DeJean has been one of the reasons why this Eagles’ secondary has seen such a great year, as the rookie has been able to lineup all over the field. On the season, DeJean totaled 51 combined tackles, three tackles for losses, six passes defended, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. We know that the Chiefs want to get the ball out quickly to their playmakers, like Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce, so in short-yardage situations, DeJean will need to continue to bring that hard-nosed energy that we have seen throughout the playoffs.
