The NASCAR Cup Series season continues this weekend with a doubleheader in the Pocono mountains. The two races on Saturday and Sunday make this the second year that Pocono Raceway has hosted a doubleheader event for the Cup Series at the track. The drivers will embark on 675 total miles of racing this week between the Pocono Organics 325 and the Explore the Pocono Mountains 350. Pocono Raceway Overview

Pocono Raceway opened in 1971. The track is 2.5 miles in total lap length. The weird quirk here is that the track is shaped like a triangle. All three turns are banked to resemble different NASCAR tracks. Turn One is modeled after Trenton Speedway, which is no longer operating. Turn Two is modeled after Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Turn Three is modeled after The Milwaukee Mile, located on the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. The track’s nickname of ‘The Tricky Triangle’ is rooted in its unique layout and shape.

The NASCAR Cup Series first raced at Pocono Raceway in 1971. Since 1982, they have hosted two races at the track annually. Starting in 2020 and going forward for the foreseeable future, Pocono’s two races are now being held on the same weekend as a doubleheader.

NASCAR Truck and Xfinity Series Round Out Massive Four-Race Weekend

In 2010, the NASCAR Truck Series joined the Cup cars in running at Pocono Raceway each fall. joining the Cup Series for their fall date. Then in 2016, the Xfinity Series would complete the national series trifecta. They accompanied the NASCAR Cup Series to Pocono each year in the spring. Now that both weekends have been merged into one doubleheader, all three series will race within a 36-hour span. The trucks and Cup are scheduled for Saturday while the Xfinity Series accompanies the second Cup race Sunday.
