Paolo Banchero Draft Profile
Strengths
One could argue that Paolo Banchero presents the most ideal combination of any prospect in the 2022 NBA Draft class. Not only is he a seasoned player already, but he has plenty of room to grow as well. His upside is that of a future NBA superstar. Banchero can score in multiple ways. He is an excellent cutter and also has a strong mid-range game. His post-up maneuvers combine an impressive blend of power and speed. Banchero is quicker than a lot of bigs which enables him to gain matchup advantages inside. He is also a skilled passer who is capable of finding and executing difficult reads. Banchero’s strength and quickness enable him to be a skilled defender as well.
Weaknesses
The main knock against Banchero’s game at present is his lack of shooting consistency from distance. This is not to say he lacks confidence in his shot. Banchero will need to improve his outside shooting, particularly from three-point range, to truly blossom in today’s NBA. Another concern that only seemed to get worse while in college at Duke is Banchero’s commitment defensively. There were numerous instances last season when he would lose track of his man. He often would fail to rotate to help or make a true effort to contest a shot. While Banchero has all of the physical tools to be a solid defender, he will need to show more effort and commitment at the next level in order to reach his full potential.
