After having their way with the New York Mets in the NL Wild Card, the San Diego Padres were in for a rude awakening in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. By the end of the third inning, San Diego was already down five runs and would eventually lose, 5-3. Can San Diego manage to split with a win in Padres vs Dodgers Game 2, or will they travel back to Petco Park in a 2-0 hole?

This MLB betting preview for the NLDS MLB Playoffs Padres vs Dodgers Game 2 includes game info, starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for tonight’s postseason matchup.

Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw (12-3, 2.28 ERA)

    San Diego Padres Preview

If any team was likely to come out of the gates slow, you would think it wouldn’t be the team that recently took two of three from a 101-win New York Mets team. Instead, the Padres looked like they were never truly up for the task in a game that never truly felt like they were in. Not only did starter Mike Clevinger not even last three innings, but a Padres fielding error gave the Dodgers an extra run.

Oddly enough, the Padres had one more hit than the Dodgers, but it still wasn’t enough to win. All their offense came in the fifth inning where they scored three runs on three hits. The other eight innings they could only manufacture four hits. Quite simply, this is what was feared for San Diego this postseason: not being able to have anyone other than Manny Machado consistently produce. They’ll need to come out of the gates strong in Game 2 as a 2-0 deficit to the Dodgers feels like a death sentence.

    Los Angeles Dodgers Preview

It was a picture-perfect start for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1. However, the last six innings were a little lackluster by the Dodgers. While they never felt threatened, it is still odd to see all six of their hits come in just two innings. This offense is as explosive as any, but any team can fall when their offense is that inconsistent. With Yu Darvish on the mound in Game 2, they’ll need to capitalize when they can and to beat Darvish, consistency and constant pressure is key.

Although their offense stalled out, their pitching picked up the slack. After starting pitcher Julio Urias was pulled going into the sixth inning, the bullpen finished off the last four innings while only giving up three hits and striking out four. With Clayton Kershaw on the hill for Game 2 the million-dollar question becomes which playoff version of Clayton Kershaw will show up?
