MLB Betting Picks We Love | 2026 MLB Postseason
Cleveland Guardians +180 to make the ALCS
Many of my MLB betting picks today are centered on the playoff structure we’ve seen since 2022. With the bracket locked in ahead of time, what we know is that the three guaranteed AL East teams are on one side of the American League bracket. With those being many people’s favorites to win the AL, the other half of the bracket is considerably more up for grabs.
Cleveland has been incredibly hot late in the season and has playoff experience. On a side that will include a weaker AL West team and likely the newbie-filled White Sox, the Guardians are an easy favorite to support to make the ALCS.
Chicago Cubs +300 to make the NLCS
Of the 16 teams that have made the Championship Series stage of the playoffs since this format began, just under half of the teams have been Wild Card teams. While I think this could be a harder year for that group than normal, the Wild Card team I have the most passion for is the Chicago Cubs. They find themselves at the top of most team offensive categories, including my personal favorites for playoff predictions, OPS+ and RBIs. They’ve gotten hot late, have made improvements pitching, and have plenty of playoff experience on the team.
If they make it out of the first round, I like their matchup against a very familiar Brewers team to make the NLCS.
Milwaukee Brewers +340 to win the NLCS
And allow me to contradict my last pick immediately. Don’t worry, Brewers fans, I’m not ignoring your team. The Brewers are top-10 in almost every team statistic this year, quite dominantly the best team in baseball all year by the numbers. Especially promising is that their offense has even improved in run scoring since the trade deadline. I think for how good they’ve been, it’s clear past postseason letdowns and the Dodgers’ bullishness are clouding their odds too much. Odds of +340 for clearly the team playing best this year so far is a good find.
I’m less into this than other MLV betting picks just because the NL is stacked, but if you’re going to pick an NL team, the Brewers’ combination of odds to talent is the best.
Tampa Bay Rays +285 to win the ALCS
The Rays are probably my favorite favored pick in this list in this category. Of the 8 CS winners in this playoff format, 5 of them have been one seeds. That’s reflected in my picks for both the Brewers and Rays here, but I especially like it for the Rays. The AL is decidedly thinner than the NL this year, and the Rays have been the best team in the AL all season with no real contention elsewhere. Another team whose numbers are dimmed just because of past postseason struggles, but if you look closer, this is the best Rays team in years, and it reminds me of the two Rays World Series teams in the past.
AL East -150 to win the American League
In choosing a division to win their league, the simplest factor is quantity. While -150 is a bit harsh in a bet category that is so wide open, it makes sense here by the numbers. The AL East will have three of the six AL playoff teams at least, and possibly four if the Blue Jays or Orioles sneak in. But even without them, the Rays, Yankees, and Red Sox are most people’s favorites to win the AL. Take into account that this bet removes the need to choose which survives the gauntlet.
Whatever AL East team wins their half of the bracket, they’ll be hot and have beaten two very good teams. A great chance to get as confident a pick as you can with still nearly true odds.
NL East +370 to win the National League
I couldn’t believe these odds were this low for the combination of the Braves and Phillies. While those teams have had more consistent and stacked iterations in the past, these two teams are still perfectly reasonable World Series contenders, let alone just make the World Series. The Phillies are heating up lately to finish the season strong, and the Braves have remained a top team all season. The main block to their odds is that they play each other first, then one will need to overcome the Dodgers in their bracket to make the NLCS. So a tough path, which justifies these odds, but even then, I think this NLDS round decides the World Series most likely, and the NL East has a two-thirds chance to win it.
AL East +285 to win the World Series
See most of my logic from my ALCS Winner pick; the likelihood of an appearance by this division makes me really like getting the most likely outcome at these odds. I also really like the idea that the main concern for all three of the set AL East teams is whether they’re playing their best baseball currently, and this bet allows you to hedge that with the idea that one of them will obviously be hot by the time they make the ALCS, which is guaranteed.
If you want a juicier bet in this category, the NL Central +450 would be my for-fun bet. I mentioned why I like the Brewers and Cubs earlier; I’m only worried they’ll have to go through each other and then a much more competitive NL overall.
AL to win World Series +150
Of the four World Series winners since 2022, the AL and NL have split it two and two. The recent Dodgers dominance and focus on high-power NL teams during that time clearly make the NL the most talented, but the World Series can reward recent play more than overall talent/ This bet category is really a coin flip to me, so the odds here make this a fun 50-50 bet for me.
First-time Winner of the World Series +270
My favorite bet of the article, I think. There are three first-time winners in the field: the Rays, Brewers, and Padres. The former two are the two top seeds, which have won the World Series in three of the four previous seasons in this format. Quarter-point odds, and then having the two best teams in each league, make this a great time to take a risk on this more fun bet.
If you like the Brewers or Rays to win, this is a great way to make that bet with actually a bit more safety than you’d expect for the love the perennial teams are getting.
Tampa Rays +800 to win the World Series
If I need to bet one team to win the World Series, it would be the Rays. As I mentioned, I think picking an AL team is smart because of the hypercompetitive NL, and also betting the one seeds has seemed to be a good strategy in these recent playoffs. Those two factors make the Rays smart, and the +800 odds are delicious for a team that is clearly the AL favorite to me. In terms of stats, the Rays are in the top 10 in almost every team statistic, are very well managed, and most importantly, I think are well designed to win a series with their constant offense and very deep pool of pitching they’ll throw at other teams.
In the playoffs, many are picking to be too predictable for a Dodgers repeat; I think betting the field is the smart move with many great odds, but the path to the ring is clearly most straightforward for the Tampa Bay Rays.
