After a six-year run that saw the Kansas City Chiefs make the Super Bowl five times and win three Lombardi Trophies, the Chiefs hit an absolute wall in 2025. From injuries to poor play to bad luck, nothing could go the way of the Chiefs. They missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and will have to retool their roster to try to get back to the promised land. With two first-round picks in their pocket, Kansas City has as good a chance as any team to get back to the playoffs in 2026, assuming they can make the right picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Here are three Kansas City Chiefs draft targets to take with the 29th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Want more draft analysis? Check out our final 2026 NFL Mock Draft here!

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Targets at No. 29

Colton Hood, CB, Tennessee

In all likelihood, the Kansas City Chiefs will probably select a cornerback with their first pick in the first round that comes ninth overall. However, all NFL fans know how crazy the draft can get and how the board can flip in an instant. If the right player falls or if the Chiefs see an opportunity to trade up for a better player, they may end up passing on a cornerback with their first pick.

In these scenarios, it becomes a must for the Chiefs to draft someone at the position at 29th overall, which is where Colton Hood comes into play. Just because Hood will likely be available at 29th overall doesn’t mean he can’t be a Week 1 starter. Hood is one of the better cornerbacks in this draft class, thanks in large part to how effective he is on the outside, especially in press coverage. He’s physical at the line of scrimmage and has a knack for breaking on routes at the perfect time.

Assuming the Chiefs skip on the position with their first pick, selecting Hood at 29th would set them up to have one of the best first rounds we’ve seen over the past few years.

Caleb Banks, DT, Florida

For as good a defensive linemen as Chris Jones and George Karlaftis are, they could certainly use some help, mainly in the interior of the defensive line. Any team that has a solid defensive line can have a solid defense, even with holes in other defensive positions. With the Chiefs likely filling a massive hole at cornerback prior to this pick, the biggest flaw in their defense would become the defensive tackle position.

Luckily for Kansas City, Caleb Banks could not only fill that gap, but could also open it up for Jones and Karlaftis to get even better, with attention needing to be given to Banks on the interior. The fit makes perfect sense as Banks has all the physical traits you could want for a defensive tackle. His game needs some polish, and he needs to be worked with on the finer points of his game, but that shouldn’t be a problem on a defensive line that already has two great starters. With the right coaching and the mentorship of Karlaftis and Jones, Banks could become a difference maker for the Chiefs for years to come.

Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri

George Karlaftis has blossomed into a solid edge rusher for the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense since he was drafted in 2022. It’s no secret that the more pressure you put on a quarterback, the easier it is to defend, which is why getting help on the defensive line is a must for the Chiefs in this draft. The Kansas City defensive line still needs more help and could get it by putting Zion Young on the other side of the line.

Much like with Caleb Banks, Zion Young has the build of an NFL player. He’s aggressive and plays with power, which is why he was so hard to contain during his time at Missouri. He’s good against the run and rushing the passer, and possesses the footwork needed to see success on the defensive line at the NFL level. While he wasn’t as consistent as many general managers would’ve liked him to be in college, it’ll be much easier to be a consistent threat when he’s no longer the best player on the defensive line that opposing offenses can key on.
