Omar Cooper Jr. Scouting Report
Strengths
Omar Cooper Jr. has both the size and strength to play outside in the NFL. However, he was a full-time slot receiver at Indiana, and he played well in that role as well. His acceleration in and out of breaks is tremendous, and he will earn yards after the catch.
Cooper was able to beat press coverage well in college. While this does not necessarily translate to the NFL, where all cornerbacks know their position, it is better than the alternative.
Weaknesses
Despite his tremendous acceleration in and out of breaks, there is wasted movement that can lead to inefficiency. And though he is a strong receiver, he is below average at converting contested catches. Cooper must also improve at adjusting to the ball instead of simply running the designed route.
Omar Cooper Jr. Fantasy Football Outlook
Cooper’s 2026 Value
Drafting Cooper at the back end of the First-Round quietly gives the Jets an intriguing trio at the wide receiver position. Cooper figures to primarily work out of the slot in this offense just as he did in college with Garrett Wilson and AD Mitchell serving as the primary weapons outside. That said, he does have the physical traits to operate outside the hash marks if the Jets so desire.
Obviously, Mitchell has had a topsy-turvy start to his own NFL career. Whether or not Cooper becomes New York’s second or third option at wideout likely hinges directly on whether he outperforms Mitchell in the lead-up to and during the season.
With the Jets now poised to run a heavy dose of two-tight end sets after also drafting Kenyon Sadiq on Night 1, it will be crucial for Cooper to prove that he is the team’s second-best option at WR. For now, he isn’t a player worth targeting in redraft formats until the latter stages when upside is the clear goal of picks.
Omar Cooper Jr. Dynasty Fantasy Football Value
Landing with the Jets doesn’t do much to change projections for Cooper to slot into the latter stages of the first-round in dynasty rookie drafts. If anything, it only reinforces that landing spot. There’s a real argument to be made that he could outperform expectations as his pro career progresses. Based on where other top rookies wound up, he can’t be considered any earlier than pick 1.09.
