Jalen Williams Draft Profile
Strengths
He may not come off the 2022 NBA Draft board until the Second Round, but Jalen Williams has all the tools needed to be a stud at the next level. Williams broke out this past season, his third playing college ball at Santa Clara. He can do just about everything at both ends of the floor. Offensively, he is a gifted playmaker and has the ability to stay under control and make quality passes at high speeds. A number of Williams’ college highlights feature him making ridiculous outlet passes on the break. He improved his ball-handling throughout his time in college. His ability to score off the dribble is special, be it on runners in the paint, mid-range jumpers or even pull-up triples. On defense, Williams gives his full effort on every possession.
Weaknesses
When it comes to quickness and explosion, Williams is unfortunately limited in these areas. Defensively, this leaves him vulnerable to getting beaten off the dribble. His lateral movement speed is average at best and is something that will need to be improved early on in his professional career. Williams also struggles to explode at the rim when working in traffic. Failure to elevate above the rim will be a hindrance to his offensive capabilities at the next level. The fact that he only broke out in his junior season despite playing in a non-power conference could scare some teams off from drafting him.
