Iowa State vs Ole Miss Prediction | March Madness Expert Picks
In the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Milwaukee, Iowa State vs Ole Miss is set to be one of the better games of the round. This game features two schools who are playing really good basketball.
In Iowa State’s first game, it looked like they did not even need Keshon Gilbert, as Milan Momcilovic dominated back home. Momcilovic poured in 20 points on 8/14 shooting from the field and 4/8 shooting from behind the three-point line. Even more impressive though was where his points were coming from: 12 points came from beyond the arc, but the other eight were scored via jumpers, fade-aways and drives to the basket. Against Ole Miss, Josh Jefferson and Dishon Jackson will be used more than in the first-round matchup. Against North Carolina, Ole Miss oftentimes found themselves mismatched in the post, leading to strong inside play from the Tar Heels during their furious comeback.
For Ole Miss, the Rebels started the game shooting 4/5 of from behind the three-point line before the Tar Heels knew what hit them. Ole Miss continued to put the pressure on UNC, eventually building a 22-point lead, before the comeback. The Rebels were able to build such a strong lead due to the play of Sean Pedulla, Dre Davis and Malik Dia. Davis was able to catch fire from the outside, scoring 15 points on three three-point makes. That allowed Dia to work inside as he saw one-on-one matchups, where he converted two and-one attempts. It was then Pedulla who closed out the game for the Rebels, scoring 20 points total and running the offense down the stretch. That inside-outside game worked so well for the Rebels against North Carolina, as they were in the driver’s seat the entire game. With Iowa State provided a different challenge, though, the Rebels need to get a little more creative to win.
North Carolina could not defend like Iowa State can. With KenPom’s eighth-ranked defense in the country, Iowa State will be able to run guards off of the three-point line, while having a presence on the inside. Ole Miss must shoot as well as they did in the first half of their first-round game to win against a really good Iowa State defensive team.
For our Iowa State vs Ole Miss prediction, we are picking the Iowa State Cyclones to win and move on in the NCAA Tournament.
