Sunday is National Tight Ends Day! As a result, the tight end position will have a spotlight on them, and their offenses often feature them a bit more. In many cases, we can see TEs be a viable Flex this week, especially in PPR leagues. I’m here to help you decide who to start and who is still not worth a spot in your lineup.
Look, I am not here to tell you that Trey McBride or Brock Bowers are worthy of starts. Hell, we’ll leave that type of analysis to the Fantasy Football Counselor or some other hack. Instead, we will look at the players who potentially may or may not be a TE1, depending on their weekly matchup.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 7 TEs
Start: Pat Freiermuth Fantasy Outlook vs Saints (in Paris)
Pat Freiermuth had a poor last outing after back-to-back solid performances. However, he was added to the injury report on Saturday with a calf injury, so he was far from 100% healthy. Now over a week removed from the injury, he should look better, and he has plenty of motivation in this game.
This Sunday is National Tight End Day, so expect the position to score plenty of touchdowns. You can consider a tight end for your Flex position as well. The stars are aligning for Pat Freiermuth over in Paris, since Sunday will be his birthday as well. Freiermuth is in a great matchup. With both Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson out, Freiermuth’s role grows. Through six games, he has five red zone targets and four touchdowns. The Saints allow the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends, and they also allow the most red zone trips in the league per game (4.7).
It is a long flight over to Paris. So, you can expect the team and Aaron Rodgers to be very aware of both Freiermuth’s birthday and the “holiday” for the TE position. This feels like a nearly guaranteed touchdown spot for him.
Start: Tyler Higbee Fantasy Outlook at Raiders
After last week, many may be off the Tyler Higbee hype train. Against the Cardinals, Higbee totaled just four catches for 22 yards while Colby Parkinson totaled five catches for 31 yards and a touchdown. However, you absolutely should hop right back onto the Higbee bandwagon.
Unfortunately, Davante Adams ruptured his hamstring last week. As a result, the Rams are down another pass catcher. This is an offense that already loves to play with multiple tight ends. However, without Adams, I am expecting them to run 12 and 13 personnel almost exclusively, which means Higbee will be on the field for nearly every down.
Last week, Higbee played 83% of the offensive snaps. Puka Nacua is the only skill position player to play more snaps. In Weeks 3-5, Tyler Higbee ranked as TE6, averaging over 15 fantasy points in PPR. Look for him to be a top-10 TE again on Sunday.
Sit: Mark Andrews Fantasy Outlook vs Bengals
It is so enticing to play Mark Andrews this week, given the matchup. The Cincinnati Bengals have allowed 90.2 receiving yards per game to tight ends, which is the most in the NFL. However, they have also not allowed a touchdown to the position this season. Without a touchdown, Andrews has proven so far that he does not have the yards to be worth a start.
Andrews has failed to reach 30 receiving yards in four straight weeks. As a result, his only valuable “start” was the game where he scored a touchdown (TE8 vs the Titans). Last week, the Ravens’ rookie tight end, Josh Cuevas, was the one to step up and play well, totaling 44 yards and a touchdown.
Simply, I don’t think we can predict Mark Andrews to score a touchdown this week. Without a touchdown, he has been worthless, which is why he lands on the wrong side of our Week 7 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Sit: Tyler Warren Fantasy Outlook vs Bears
Currently, Tyler Warren is questionable to play on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings due to a groin injury. This is me saying you need to sit him, and all other Colts TEs, no matter who is active. So, if you have Warren, make other plans now before time runs out.
The Vikings obviously blitz the hell out of the quarterback. Offenses oftentimes need the tight end to either stay in and block or chip the edge rusher before running their route, which lowers the potential to earn fantasy points. As a result, Minnesota allows the fewest fantasy points to tight ends. Sit all Colts tight ends.
