The NFL is certainly a week-to-week league. In the span of a week, the wide receiver position looks very different due to injuries, teams on bye (BUF, WAS, JAX, LAC) and poor quarterback play. You need replacements for players like Davante Adams, Parker Washington and Terry McLaurin, but where do you turn? My Week 7 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em is here to help!
Look, I am not here to say that Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Puka Nacua belong in your lineup. I hope you already know that. Instead, I will go over players you may actually have a question about. These are players you may debate on starting in your WR2/3 slot, or possibly your Flex position, depending on the weekly matchup. Below, I have two players I like and two more that I am nervous about.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 7 WRs
Start: DeMario Douglas Fantasy Outlook at Bears
DeMario Douglas is in such a good spot on Thursday Night Football, leading to him kicking off our Week 7 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em! The Patriots will face a Chicago Bears defense that has really struggled.
The Bears allow the second-most yards per pass attempt (8.4) while allowing a league-high eight passes of 20+ yards over the past two weeks. The Patriots should be able to attack Chicago downfield, and DeMario Douglas will be a great weapon for them.
While AJ Brown returned to the Patriots’ lineup last week, Romeo Doubs left with an injury that will keep him out for a month. This vaults Douglas back to WR2 status, which led to him catching 11 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns over the past two games. He’s had an average depth of target of 11.4 yards over these two games, showcasing his ability to get behind the defense. While the Bears are forced to key on Brown, look for DeMario Douglas to find space to catch a handful of passes on Thursday.
Start: Germie Bernard Fantasy Outlook vs Saints (in Paris)
Germie Bernard was a priority waiver wire pickup for many this week. So, if you have him on your team, I assume you are looking to play him. If you are on the edge whatsoever, this is me saying to fire up the rookie with confidence in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ receiving corps is depleted with injuries, with both Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson out a few more weeks. The rookie is taking advantage of the increased opportunity, and he’s playing well enough that he should be relevant even when the full group is healthy. Operating as the WR2 last week, Bernard ran 54-of-56 routes. This led to 11 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown against Tampa Bay, which isn’t an easy matchup. The matchup is easier this week against a New Orleans Saints defense that has surrendered the sixth-most yards per play (5.8) and the seventh-most yards per pass attempt (7.7).
Sit: Michael Wilson Fantasy Outlook vs Broncos
The post-Marvin Harrison Jr. era for the Michael Wilson fantasy owners has not gone as they would hope. If anyone was watching the Cardinals’ film prior to the trade (not many), then it was easy to see why Wilson is struggling now. Harrison’s role was to stretch the field. This is similar to what we see Rome Odunze do in Chicago (more on him in a second). While MHJ was not playing with full effort, the defense still had to respect him, and this created natural seams and drew attention away from Wilson.
Now, with Michael Wilson as the WR1, there isn’t another wide receiver that demands respect in the same way as Harrison did. This has allowed bracket coverage on Wilson, giving his defender help over the top. Jacoby Brissett is a conservative quarterback who won’t throw into double coverage. As a result, Wilson is averaging seven targets and a 17.5% target share over the past two games. This is a massive drop-off from his 29.7% target share over the first month of the season.
While Michael Wilson is absolutely not a must-sit player, he does land on the wrong side of our Week 7 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Sit: Rome Odunze Fantasy Outlook vs Patriots
Rome Odunze is an important member of the Chicago Bears offense. The issue for fantasy football is that his importance doesn’t really show up in the box score. He’s a solid blocker, and he also helps with spacing on the field, creating running and passing lanes for his teammates. That’s fine and dandy, but it means we shouldn’t be starting him in fantasy.
This week, he will match up against a solid New England Patriots defense. Individually, he will see Christian Gonzalez, who is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. The ceiling for Odunze is low this week, but his role is to isolate Gonzalez and create space underneath for Luther Burden III or Colston Loveland. Sit Odunze in both Weeks 7 and 8. His fantasy football strength of schedule gets very easy after that, however.
