Locking in the wide receiver you drafted first is easy. What becomes difficult is deciding which other receivers will help you win a fantasy matchup, especially for Week 1 since we have very little real information to go off of. We will tackle some of those tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em dilemmas today, but you can join us on YouTube for our weekly Wednesday and Thursday night streams if you have more questions!
Look, I am not here to say that Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase belong in your lineup. I hope you already know that. Instead, I will go over players you may actually have a question about. These are players you may debate on starting in your WR2/3 slot, or possibly your Flex position, depending on the weekly matchup. Below, I have two players I like and two more that I am nervous about.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 1 WRs
Start: Jordan Addison Fantasy Outlook vs Packers
Last season was a complete disaster for the Minnesota Vikings’ passing offense. However, in three of Jordan Addison’s four matchups against Green Bay before that, he totaled at least 65 yards and a touchdown. He is in line for another great performance, which is why he kicks off our Week 1 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Kyler Murray is now in Minnesota. While he’s not the best quarterback, he can run this offense, and he throws a pretty deep ball, which is Addison’s specialty. Murray and Addison worked together earlier this offseason as well, and the two look to have good chemistry.
Jordan Addison will either be lining up against Keisean Nixon or rookie Brandon Cisse. I love either matchup. The Packers are also without their three best edge rushers from a season ago, and they likely won’t generate a consistent pass rush without blitzing this week. This is a recipe for success for Minnesota’s passing offense, so start Addison with confidence.
Start: Jameson Williams Fantasy Outlook vs Saints
The Detroit Lions are playing at home to start this season, and you know what that means: Jared Goff and the passing attack will be successful. If you check out the fantasy QB start/sit article, you will see Goff featured. Here, we will talk about Jameson Williams!
Across his NFL career, Williams has averaged 3.1 receptions, 54.5 receiving yards and 0.38 touchdowns per game at home. On the road, this average drops to 2.8 receptions, 46.3 yards and 0.3 touchdowns per game. The home/road splits are much more significant for Goff, and Williams is expected to reap the rewards here after everyone in Detroit raved about the camp Jamo put together.
The Lions’ new offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing, comes over from Arizona, where his offense overachieved last season. Remember Michael Wilson’s success? Jameson Williams is expected to play that role in Detroit’s offense this season, and he could start the year with a bang.

Sit: DJ Moore Fantasy Outlook at Texans
I am of the opinion that DJ Moore bounces back in Buffalo after a poor season in Chicago. So, Moore being drafted as the WR23 is fine value. However, I want nothing to do with a matchup against the Houston Texans, which is why he is highlighted in this section of the Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
The Houston defense overall may end up being the best unit in the league this season. However, it’s Moore’s individual matchup against Derek Stingley Jr. that has me staying away. Stingley may be the best cornerback in the NFL, and he only allowed a 52.3% catch rate last season. A big performance is not likely from any offensive player, but especially Buffalo’s WR1.
Sit: Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Outlook vs Browns
According to his ADP, Brian Thomas Jr. should be a confident lock as the WR3 in your lineup. However, it’s tough to have any sort of confidence in him after last season. Now, I am not in the camp that Thomas won’t be successful this season. I think we have seen his ceiling and his floor, and now he will land somewhere in the middle. However, I am not thinking he starts the season hot.
Thomas will be exclusively playing on the outside this season, which is what should have been the case all along. While I think this is a good thing overall, it means he will see Denzel Ward a lot in this game. I hate that. The Jaguars should also take care of business against Cleveland, meaning Jacksonville could lean on the run and be less aggressive in the second half, lowering the potential ceiling for Brian Thomas Jr. as well.
This entire Jacksonville offense has a lot of moving parts. It’s best to use Week 1 simply to see who is used and how.
