The NFL season officially begins tonight, as we already have a running back ruled out with an injury (TreVeyon Henderson). Despite just drafting your team, you may already be dealing with tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em decisions, whether that be due to injuries or matchups. We will be here every single week to help you make those tough decisions, and we will be live on Wednesday and Thursday nights on our YouTube to answer your questions as well!
Look, I am not here to tell you that Jahmyr Gibbs or Bijan Robinson are worthy of starts. Hell, we’ll leave that type of analysis to the AI authors of Yahoo or Sports Illustrated! Instead, we will discuss players who are on the fringe of your lineup. Players who may or may not be an RB2 or Flex for you, depending on the matchup.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 1 RBs
Start: Rhamondre Stevenson Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks
Given the injury news that TreVeyon Henderson is out Week 1, it’s not a surprise that Rhamondre Stevenson finds himself leading this Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em column. With the volume he is about to receive, he’s close to a must-start player this week.
Yes, the Seahawks are good, and their run defense was near the top last season, but they aren’t invincible. This offseason, Mike Vrabel has talked up the receiving ability of Rhamondre Stevenson. Last year, Seattle allowed the most receptions in the NFL to running backs (97). Clearly, this is an area where Stevenson could pick up a couple of free points.
The New England Patriots added to the offensive line this offseason, placing an emphasis on winning the line of scrimmage. This is something they failed at in the Super Bowl, and there is no doubt they will look to set the tone with their running game and prove they are a different team this season. Look for the Patriots to bring in the fullback in the red zone as they did so often last season, pound the rock, and help Stevenson fall in the end zone in the NFL’s first game.
Start: David Montgomery Fantasy Outlook vs Bills
Have the Buffalo Bills solved the run defense issues that plagued their team last season? That is exactly what the Houston Texans will find out. I love Jim Leonhard, Buffalo’s new defensive coordinator, but this defense won’t go from horrific to elite, so running the ball has to be an emphasis for Houston in this game.
As for the Texans, they improved the offensive line this offseason, and they also went and got David Montgomery, who has been one of the best pure runners since entering the NFL. He will also be the short-yardage running back, giving him a decent chance at scoring a touchdown. If you waited at running back in your draft and ended up getting Montgomery as your RB2 or Flex, you should be comfortable with him in your fantasy football lineup for NFL Week 1.
Another great thing about Montgomery this season is that Houston’s defense will keep them from getting completely blown out. That means the running game never has to be abandoned.

Sit: Jeremiyah Love Fantasy Outlook at Chargers
If you have followed my analysis during the fantasy draft process, I’m sure you’re not surprised to see Jeremiyah Love on this side of the Week 1 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article. While he’s more talented and should have a role that is larger, it is still a comparable situation to TreVeyon Henderson last season.
Love is immediately one of the highest-paid running backs of all time before playing a snap for a team projected to be terrible. There is no reason for the Cardinals to overwork Love this season. Arizona listing Tyler Allgeier as the RB1 isn’t surprising whatsoever, because he is the RB1. He will be the early-down RB and see short-yardage work. While Jeremiyah Love is the more valuable fantasy asset, he isn’t immediately worthy of being a starter for your team.
Not only is he a bit banged up from the preseason, but he will do most of his work between the 20s. A part-time player with limited red zone usage will be inconsistent, so I think you should sit him if you have another legitimate option.
Sit: Bhayshul Tuten Fantasy Outlook vs Browns
It has been an interesting training camp and preseason process for Bhayshul Tuten in terms of how many analysts in the fantasy community talked about him. For some reason, there were some loud voices who initially touted Tuten as a potential bell-cow RB. Coverage went from one extreme to the next, with many hating his role and saying he would surrender a large majority of his work to Chris Rodriguez Jr.
What do I think Tuten’s role is? Well, the NFL is a copycat league, and this doesn’t seem to be a big mystery. Tuten is the home run threat in the backfield, and he is a good receiver as well. Much like the backfield in Arizona, Tuten will lose snaps to Rodriguez in short-yardage situations and passing downs due to pass protection. LeQuint Allen Jr. has a role when healthy as well.
Tuten still has value this season, but it could be a good week to sit him. Not only is it nice to watch how this offense operates a bit, but the Jaguars are expected to win over the Browns somewhat easily. If Jacksonville plays with a healthy lead, they are more likely to grind the clock with Rodriguez, who is more capable of a ground-and-pound approach to keep the clock moving in the second half.
