Los Angeles Dodgers Preview
After the way Game 1 went it looked like the Dodgers still had the Padres’ number. The funny thing about baseball is how quickly things can change. 18 innings later and the Dodgers look to have no answers for the Padres’ pitching staff. The Dodgers have struggled to get any offense going and have been stonewalled by San Diego’s bullpen all series.
Late in Game 3, Trea Turner appeared to hurt his finger sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt. The Dodgers are already struggling enough offensively as it is, if Trea Turner’s hand injury proves problematic then the Dodgers are in real trouble. If the Dodgers want a shot to win this series, they need to start getting hits instead of banking on the long ball being enough for them.
San Diego Padres Preview
It may not have been a high-scoring affair but Game 3 was electric and the Padres were an incredibly fun team to watch. Offensively, it seems that every player in the lineup can change the game with one swing of the bat. Outfielder Trent Grisham hit .189 on the season and yet has three home runs already this postseason and brought in the winning run in Game 3. If guys like him can continue to step up, this offense will be unstoppable.
With Josh Hader’s struggles in the regular season, the state of San Diego’s bullpen was a real question heading into the postseason. After three games in this series, the bullpen looks unbeatable. They haven’t given up a single earned run this series which is impressive given the fact that they’ve been on the hill for a total of 13 innings over three games. If the Padres can continue this streak for just one more game, they should be able to clinch their spot in the NLCS Saturday night.
