The Cleveland Browns went into the offseason last year hoping to be in the headlines for all the right reasons. Unfortunately, that did not happen, as the Browns immediately made headlines when they drafted Shedeur Sanders and ended his draft weekend fall. To make matters worse, the team was absolutely awful, and even when Sanders did take the field, he was getting mauled, which led to even worse play than before. The season spelled the end of Kevin Stefanski’s tenure as head coach, and the Browns installed Todd Monken to replace him.
Just like the last 20+ years, this is a crucial draft for the Cleveland Browns franchise. If they truly believe Shedeur Sanders is the quarterback of the future, they must make sure to build a team around him that will allow him to succeed. That starts in this year’s NFL Draft, where Cleveland will have the sixth overall pick and will have their pick of some elite NFL prospects. Here are the Cleveland Browns draft targets for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Cleveland Browns Draft Targets at No. 6
Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami
There were several reasons the Cleveland Browns and Shedeur Sanders were bad last year, but one of the biggest ones was the offensive line. They couldn’t keep Sanders upright and at times couldn’t open up a single running lane for running back Quinshon Judkins. The Browns addressed this partially by signing former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins from the Green Bay Packers, as well as others. The job is not done, though, as they need a few more bodies to feel confident in their offensive line.
With plenty of the top prospects coming at positions the Browns are already set at, the next best option for the Browns is massive offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. He’s a “set and forget” type player, and he can start on this offensive line immediately. The best part about Mauigoa is that he doesn’t just specialize in the run of the pass game, as he can play both well. If the Browns can keep Sanders upright, they’ll have a much better chance to turn this franchise around, and Mauigoa will help them do exactly that.
Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
Although he is not as talented or pro-ready as Mauigoa, Monroe Freeling is another offensive lineman who can immediately start for the Cleveland Browns. If Mauigoa is taken before the Browns come on the board with the sixth overall pick, Freeling would be the next best option for the Browns. He is an absolute mammoth, at 6’7″, and is incredibly athletic as well. Freeling not only has everything you can’t teach, but he also moves well in the open field and can keep blocking and stay on his man for a long time.
The one downside to Freeling’s game is that he is not as strong as many would like him to be. Even though that is not the best thing to hear about your future offensive lineman, that can be worked on. As previously stated, the offensive line is a big issue for the Browns, and taking Freeling would make much more sense than drafting another edge rusher or linebacker that the Browns don’t need with their stacked defensive lineup.
Makai Lemon, WR, USC
Although the offensive line is a big issue for the Cleveland Browns, so is the wide receiver position. Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman and Isaiah Bond are fine receivers, but that group is not good enough for a team that has intentions of rebuilding itself into a playoff team again. They lack depth and the true, bona fide WR1-type player that turns a good offense into an elite offense.
Makai Lemon is not an outside receiver, but more of a slot receiver at the NFL level. He has been compared to Amon-Ra St. Brown by multiple analysts, and if Lemon can even get close to that comparison, it will take the Browns’ offense to the next level. He’s a solid catcher and does a good job after the catch as well. Solidifying the offensive line is important, but if quarterbacks don’t have weapons they can trust, offenses will still struggle. Taking Lemon is maybe not the most sensible pick, but it is one that will certainly get Browns’ fans excited.
