Kansas City Chiefs Preview

Despite ranking top five in scoring offense and averaging over 30 points per game through three weeks, the Chiefs limp into Philadelphia off of back-to-back losses. This marks the first time that Kansas City has had a losing record since Andy Reid took over as the team’s head coach back in 2013. Such a stat speaks to just how dominant the Chiefs have been for the past several years. Reid will attempt to earn win No. 100 for his Chiefs tenure against his former team.

While Kansas City enjoys a vote of confidence from the NFL betting oddsmakers that has them listed as 7-point favorites for this Week 4 clash, it will take a much better defensive effort for them to cover. Through three weeks, the Chiefs defense ranks dead last in adjusted efficiency against both the run and pass, per Football Outsiders. Offensively, the Chiefs will need to cut down on the turnovers. A pair of Patrick Mahomes interceptions were joined with two lost fumbles in last week;’s defeat. Perhaps one silver lining is that they still had a chance right down to the end against the Los Angeles Chargers despite the sloppy performance. Mahomes had three touchdown passes and Clyde Edwards-Helaire finally got the run game going with a 100-yard effort.

Philadelphia Eagles Preview

After having their way with the Atlanta Falcons in their opener and playing the San Francisco 49ers tough in a narrow Week 2 loss, the Eagles got stomped hard by the division rival Dallas Cowboys last Monday. Philadelphia was down two scores at halftime and could never recover as they dropped their second straight and failed to cover as NFL betting underdogs. Of further concern for the Eagles going forward is the injury situation. Known for having horrible luck on the injury front the past few seasons, the Eagles absorbed multiple costly blows along both the offensive and defensive fronts last week.

The real head-scratcher when it comes to the Week 3 defeat lies in the offensive game plan. Or, perhaps, lack thereof. Quarterback Jalen Hurts finished with a big stat line of over 360 total yards and a pair of touchdowns. While that seems like a positive, it truly felt like a one-man show on Monday night. The Eagles’ top two running backs, Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell, combined to carry the ball just three times. Philly will need to have a more balanced plan of attack going forward if they are to compete in the NFC East. That said, it was nice to see Zach Ertz haul in a touchdown pass. It could be a big statistical day for several Eagles players this Sunday given the defense they face.
