This Week 1 matchup features two very different storylines at quarterback. For the Los Angeles Chargers, Justin Herbert looks to take the next steps forward after winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Washington Football Team will be rolling out journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has finally been given the confidence from an organization that he deserves. Which passer will prevail in this Chargers vs Washington NFL betting matchup?

The following Chargers vs Washington NFL betting preview will give you the current odds, betting trends and picks for the Week 1 matchup.

Chargers vs Washington Week 1 NFL Betting Preview

NFL Regular Season — Week 1 Game
Los Angeles Chargers (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Washington Football Team (0-0, 0-0 Home)
    Date: Sunday, September 12, 2021
    Time: 1:00 p.m. EST
    Venue: FedExField — Landover, MD
    Coverage: CBS

After winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, expectations for Justin Herbert in his second season are high. Still, he doesn’t need to make many improvements for this team to be better. To say Anthony Lynn mismanaged the Chargers last season would be an understatement. Time and time again they found ways to lose, so the coaching change to Brandon Staley should be viewed as a positive one. Defensively, the Chargers defense should be solid. They welcome back Derwin James Jr., who is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

The Washington Football Team may not have an official name, but they have an official madman at quarterback, in Ryan Fitzpatrick. Washington won the NFC East last season and pushed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs. Yet, they are being given little respect. Offensive additions should have this unit playing better, which the defense will continue to be as tough as they come. Watch out for Washington.
