The Tar Heels came into the game on Joe Lunardi’s last four byes in regards to the bubble. Needing to solidify their season, they took care of business, beating the Wolfpack, 84-74. Today in sports history (1964), 22-year-old Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) defeated the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Sonny Liston. Liston was at the top of his game in 1964, beating Floyd Patterson twice before the match. Being 22 years old, Clay guaranteed a win, something the boxing fans have been become accustomed to over Clay’s career. Today in sports history (1985), legendary college basketball coach at Indiana, Bob Knight tossed a chair across the court. Knight apparently became frustrated with the officiating, leading to the outburst. The incident happened during a Big Ten rivalry game against Purdue.
