In a must win situation at home, the New York Yankees were blanked by the Houston Astros 5-0. In a game full of Yankees mistakes and nonexistent batting, the Yankees were simply embarrassed by Houston. Now the Yankees have their backs against the wall down 3-0 against one of the best teams in the MLB this season. Can the Yankees stave off the sweep for at least one game?

Houston Astros Preview
To be the best, you have to capitalize when given the opportunity. After Harrison Bader dropped a routine fly ball in the first inning with two outs, Astros outfielder Chas McCormick made them pay by muscling a two-run homer over the wall on the very next at bat. They used small ball in the sixth inning to add another three runs to their total and seemed to have total control throughout this game.
Christian Javier is not a starter who often goes too deep into games and didn’t again in Game 4. After giving up just one hit through just over five innings, the bullpen came in and shut down New York. Five relievers combined to give up just two hits over the last 4 2/3 innings. The Yankees offense is already struggling and with the way the Astros bullpen is playing, it seems dire for the Yankees.
New York Yankees Preview
There was a reason the Yankees found themselves facing elimination twice against the Cleveland Indians. Their bats have gone silent in the playoffs and that troubling trend continued in Game 4. The top four batters in the Yankees order were a combined 1-10 and only Giancarlo Stanton has a batting average over .150 in the playoffs. It would be foolish to believe this would turn around out of the blue for Game 4.
For as bad as the loss looked in Game 3, it’s hardly the fault of the pitching staff. Gerrit Cole gave up three earned runs and the bullpen was flawless. If giving up three runs isn’t good enough, this series won’t last much longer. New York has given up just over three earned runs a game this series and find themselves down 3-0. The pitching has been solid but can they be perfect? As of now, that seems to be the only chance New York has at winning a game.
