The Philadelphia Phillies hosted their first playoff game since 2011 and the crowd couldn’t have been happier with the end result. The Phillies jumped on the Atlanta Braves early on their way to a 9-1 drubbing. The Phillies are now just one game away from advancing to the NLCS, something that seemed unfathomable just over a week ago. Can Atlanta win and force a Braves vs Phillies Game 5, or will Philadelphia be the first team to advance to the NLCS?

This MLB betting preview for the NLDS MLB Playoffs Braves vs Phillies Game 4 includes game info, starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for tonight’s postseason matchup.

Braves: Charlie Morton (9-6, 4.34 ERA)
Phillies: Noah Syndergaard (10-10, 3.94 ERA)

    Atlanta Braves Preview

Quite simply, the Braves were not prepared for the Phillies or the hostile atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park. The crowd was incredible and likely helped Braves pitcher Spencer Strider feel the pressure. A six-run third inning sent the crowd into a frenzy and Atlanta never really had a chance to fight back. Once again the Braves’ offense went ice cold with Travis D’Arnaud again carrying them with two of the team’s six hits.

Starter Spencer Strider was knocked out in the third inning and each of the three relievers who helped finish the game gave up at least one unearned run. It’s hard enough to win a game when you can’t score much, but it’s impossible when the bullpen struggles to hold the opposing offense. It’s do-or-die time for the Braves. Will the offense finally show up?

    Philadelphia Phillies Preview

After splitting the first two games of this series, nobody would’ve been surprised if the Phillies won Game 3. With that in mind, nobody expected the onslaught from the Phillies’ offense. Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins mashed moonshots in the third inning while Stott and Castellanos knocked in a few runs themselves as well. This is what the Phillies were expecting from their offense all year after all the splashes they made in free agency. If they are finally coming together now for good, they are a true World Series contender.

Atlanta’s offense hasn’t been good all series but credit is due to Aaron Nola. Nola threw six innings without giving up a single earned run. He also only gave up five hits while also striking out six. The bullpen was great as well as they gave up just a single hit over the last three innings. Few teams can beat the Phillies when their offense is producing, virtually nobody can beat them in a series if their pitching is lights out as well. The question becomes whether or not they can repeat this performance one more time.
