Jordan Love Draft Profile, Analysis and NFL Draft Projection

Every season there is a player that impresses at the NFL Combine and improves their draft stock. This year, that player was quarterback Jordan Love. While he is not in that top tier of quarterbacks, it’s easy to see a scenario where Love becomes the steal of the 2020 NFL Draft.

When reading any Jordan Love draft profile, there will be a couple points that continue to pop up. First, he is naturally gifted and can make any throw. Second, he makes too many mental mistakes. This is something that can be coached and improved through experience, which is why so many teams are loving this prospect.

Jordan Love Expert Analysis

Strengths

“Checks the boxes in terms of size and body composition. Good mobility and athleticism; capable of extending plays with his feet, hitting throws on the move and taking off with the ball in his hands.” — Joe Marino, The Draft Network

“Love also has an NFL-ready arm, with the ability to generate velocity to all levels of the field. His arm strength makes him a fit in any offense, and there will be no limitations on him challenging any window in the NFL.” — Mark Schofield, Touchdown Wire

Weaknesses

Decision making. “Seems to predetermine some throws thanks to favorable pre-snap reads. Turnovers became problematic in 2019 as a byproduct of looking for big plays. Was forced to throw a lot of tight window balls due to separation issues throughout 2019 season.” — Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network

“Love’s accuracy took a step back [in 2019], and his delayed reaction from “see it” to “throw it” when making reads is troubling. He has the arm to stick throws into tight windows but needs better eye discipline and anticipation to keep windows open.” — Lance Zierlein, NFL Network

Jordan Love Draft Projections

Mel Kiper, ESPN: Patriots (No. 23)

“At 6-foot-4, Love has all the traits that teams look for in a starter…It’s tough to know whether Bill Belichick is going to treat the season as a rebuild, but taking Love makes sense either way.”

Doug Farrar, Touchdown Wire: Patriots (No. 23)

“Belichick, who has every trend in football history stored in the supercomputer between his ears, is well aware of the changes at the quarterback position over the past five to 10 years, and he has to have wondered more than once what his offense would look like with a Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson of his own.”

Will Brinson, CBS: Jaguars (No. 20)

“What better way to buy yourself some time than by getting Gardner Minshew some competition at quarterback? Right now it’s just the ‘stache and Josh Dobbs. That ain’t gonna cut it.”

Matt Miller, Bleacher Report: Colts (No. 13)

“…after Andrew Luck’s retirement and the up-and-down play of Jacoby Brissett last year, Ballard has to make a move at quarterback. With three selections in the first two rounds, the Colts can invest No. 13 overall on the future of the quarterback position and still fill key needs with extra picks.”
