New York Yankees Preview

After falling into a slump at the end of the season, the New York Yankees found themselves in a 2-1 series hole against the Guardians. New York found a way to fight out of it however and win a postponed Game 5 on Tuesday. The Yankees’ pitching hasn’t been great so far, and they will have their hands full against the much better Houston Astros.

The hitting for the Yankees was solid against a stout Guardians pitching staff. A lot of their run support came from the long ball in the ALDS. If they want to compete with the Astros, the Yankees will need to also be able to score some runs by playing small ball as well. Although the home run is king in the playoffs, it’s unwise to completely rely upon it.

Houston Astros Preview

The Houston Astros looked solid on the surface in the ALDS against the Seattle Mariners. The series was very close to going a completely different way though. Houston needed a ninth inning three-run homer to come back from a two-run deficit in Game 1. In Game 2, the Mariners once again fumbled a lead late in the game. In Game 3, Houston outlasted Seattle in the 18th inning.

The Astros’ offense almost solely hinged on the success of Yordan Alvarez against Seattle. The Yankees have a much better offense and pitching staff than Seattle. If other guys like Jose Altuve and Kyle Tucker can’t get their act together, their postseason may end at the hand of the Yankees.
