If you are unaware what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 8 survivor picks wisely.

Last week, I went 3-0 on my picks, pushing my season record to 16-5. We are at a point in the season where we need to take some of the better teams to make sure that we make it until next week. With that in mind, here are my best picks for your Survivor pool.

Teams used for “Lock of the Week”

  • 1 – Buffalo Bills
  • 2 – San Francisco 49ers
  • 3 – Indianapolis Colts
  • 4 – Los Angeles Rams
  • 5– Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 6– Baltimore Ravens
  • 7– New Orleans Saints

Lock of the Week | Week 8 Survivor Picks

New York Jets vs Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently 19.5-point favorites to beat the New York Jets. I fully expect the Chiefs to cover the spread this game. I have been writing these survivor articles for eight weeks now, and this may be the easiest game that I have picked. The Jets are a horrible team that may lose to some colleges, if they played. This needs to be a statement game for Kansas City. They have some question marks surrounding them, and this is the week for them to show that they are still the best team in the NFL.

Another key feature in this game is that it is a Le’Veon Bell revenge game. Bell specifically asked teams to sign him, if they had the Jets on their schedule. He should see a ton of work here, resulting in a big day, which he can stick in the face of Adam Gase. If you are still alive in your survivor pool, use this as a game that will guarantee you live to see another week.

Value Pick of the Week | Week 8 Survivor Picks

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles

If you already used the Chiefs in your pool, look to take a smart flier on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are not a great football team, sitting at a 2-4-1 record, but that record is enough to put them atop the NFC East. On the flip side, the Dallas Cowboys are a horrible team. It seems that the coaching staff has lost the locker room, and the players do not believe in Mike McCarthy. With uncertainty at the quarterback position, it seems likely that the Cowboys will drop this huge divisional game. Look for Carson Wentz to make short, efficient passes en route to a solid day. Doug Peterson should fire up some tricks as well to take a must-win game.

With Washington on bye, Philly could really separate themselves from the division with a win here. The Eagles should be able to handle everything that this poor Cowboys team throws them, en route to a huge divisional win.

High Risk High Reward | Week 8 Survivor Picks

Indianapolis Colts vs Detroit Lions

I might be tempting the football gods here by picking the Detroit Lions to win two games in a row, but it is a risk that I am willing to take. I said last week that the game was going to come down to a D’Andre Swift touchdown catch, and I was pretty close. The Lions are not a great football team by any means, but with them currently sitting at third in the division and coming off a big win against Atlanta, they have to be feeling pretty good about themselves. Look for them to continue to run both Swift and Adrian Peterson in order to keep Indianapolis on their toes.

What the Colts have on the defensive side of the ball, they lack on the offensive side of the ball. Philip Rivers has not looked great and the slow development of Jonathan Taylor has put the Colts into a lot of unfavorable situations. The Colts want to keep games low-scoring, grind-out wins, and I actually think that plays into the Lions’ hands here. If Detroit can get their running game going and find TJ Hockenson and Kenny Golladay when they need to, this should be a hard-fought win.
