Week 3 is here. While there is still a lot to sort out, we have a little bit better idea of who the contenders are and who the worst teams in the NFL are. With the little bit more of information that we have, we can take advantage of that knowledge for our Week 3 NFL Survivor Pool Picks. If you are unaware of what NFL Survivor picks are, the basic concept is that you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 3 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.
If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week,” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick of the week.”
The “lock” details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This will most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup. It may be worth it to look at the NFL betting odds for these games and place some bets as well.

Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Commanders
The Seattle Seahawks enter their Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders as seven-point favorites, which is tied for the second-highest odds in the NFL this week. That makes sense, considering that Seattle looks like one of the better teams in the NFL in their quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Given the recent injury to Jayden Daniels, it would be shocking to see the Commanders put together enough firepower to beat the elite Seahawks defense.
When breaking down the matchup, that is where we start. The Seahawks still feature one of the league’s best defensive lines. That defensive line will severely limit Washington’s ability to establish the run. Once the run game is axed from the equation, this gives Seattle the opportunity to send the house and make Marcus Mariota beat them through the air. While Mariota certainly is not one of the worst backup quarterbacks in the league, the Commanders are 2-6 in games that he has started.
On the offensive side of the ball, there are still question marks surrounding the quarterback position, but that might not be a horrible thing. Drew Lock looked great last week, throwing for 235 yards and three touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals. While Washington’s defense is better than Arizona’s, there really is nothing that scares you or makes you think this Washington defense will beat the Seahawks offense.

Value Pick | Week 3 NFL Survivor Pool Picks
Green Bay Packers vs Atlanta Falcons
Green Bay got back on track with an overtime victory over the New York Jets in Week 2. They come into their Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons as 5.5-point favorites. While the Packers certainly have not played their best football yet this season, the 5.5 points makes sense considering that the Falcons’ offense has looked like one of the worst in the NFL.
What this game really comes down to is the Atlanta offense versus the Green Bay defense. This season, the Packers defense has played well, due in part to the exceptional play from punter Daniel Whelan. On the flip side, the Falcons offense has yet to run a play in the red zone. Michael Penix will be better than Cooper Rush, but given the lack of experience, it is hard to believe that he will move the ball up and down the field.
Looking at the other side of the ball, the Falcons have struggled to stop the pass this season. They rank 23rd in passing yards given up this season, and given that Green Bay has struggled to run the ball this season, they must stick to the pass to win this game. Even without Jayden Reed, Christian Watson has three touchdowns this season, and this appears to be a great game to get Tucker Kraft going.
While Green Bay is not a great team, the star power outweighs Atlanta in this one, giving Green Bay a solid victory on Thursday.

New Orleans Saints vs Las Vegas Raiders
What do we make out of the New Orleans Saints? They have played two halves of really good football, two halves of below-average to average football and an overtime of solid football. With all of that being said, they enter their Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders as three-point favorites. It seems a little questionable given that the Raiders are 2-0, but how much do we truly believe in Las Vegas?
The Saints offense has quietly looked like one of the better offenses in the NFL, as Tyler Shough has shown that he can be the franchise quarterback. It has helped a lot that Chris Olave has been on the field. Injury concerns continue to plague Olave, but when he his on the field, he looks like one of the better receivers in the NFL. Olave’s ability to stretch the field against a poor Raiders secondary will assist the run game that the Saints are so desperately looking for. Devaughn Vele is one of the more underrated receivers in the NFL, and with Juwan Johnson, Travis Etienne and Alvin Kamara, the Saints have a nice group of skill players around Shough.
Looking at the Raiders with Kirk Cousins at the helm, there is not much to scare you in the pass game. If Brock Bowers is back, it is hard to believe that he will be running 100% of the snaps. Stopping Ashton Jeanty is key to keeping the Raiders offense at bay, and with not that great of an offensive line, it is hard to believe that Vegas is going to run all over the Saints in this game.
