Underdog Fantasy NFL DFS Picks: Rams vs Panthers NFL Playoffs
Bryce Young HIGHER 191.5 Passing Yards
The Panthers seemingly limped their way into the NFL Playoffs, getting in only because the Falcons defeated the Saints in Week 18. With a below .500 record, it now looks like the Panthers will be severely outmatched in this game. I am expecting the Rams to get up early, leading to the Panthers needing to abandon their run game and rely on Bryce Young’s arm to keep them in the game. In the Week 13 matchup between these two teams, Young threw for 206 yards. It has become clear that Young has taken steps to become the Panthers’ franchise guy, something that he is going to need to continue if they want to win this game.
The Rams have played well against opposing rushing attacks this season, giving up just over 110 rushing yards per game. With the Rams not being able to rely on their run game in this one, Young will have to be slinging the ball around. In Carolina’s two biggest must-win games this season (both against the Buccaneers), Young finished with 191 passing yards and 266 passing yards. That shows that when Carolina has to win, they are comfortable with Young being the guy to do that through the air.

Over the course of the NFL season, the Rams have sported one of the league’s better offenses. When looking at the advantages in this game, it appears that the biggest mismatch is Los Angeles’ offense against Carolina’s defense. That works well for a Rams offense that is getting Davante Adams back this week. The Rams scored the most touchdowns out of all the 32 teams, with 65. They averaged 3.6 extra points made per game this season, which is higher than this projection. With Puka Nacua, Adams, Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and a healthy tight end room, it is hard to believe that the Rams won’t be in the end zone at least four times in this game.
In the previous matchup between these two teams in Week 13, the Rams got into the end zone four times. That was a game that included three turnovers from the Rams. With Matthew Stafford having one of the best seasons of his career, he is not going into this game and leading an offense that will turn the ball over three times again. With Carolina’s struggles in man-to-man coverage this year, Los Angeles’ receiving room should have a field day, leading to those touchdowns.
Puka Nacua HIGHER 26.5 Yards Longest Reception
Speaking of Los Angeles’ receiving room, Puka Nacua will be at his best once again this week. Nacua certainly hit his stride towards the second half of the season, as one of the biggest target hogs in the NFL. That trend was true against the Panthers in Week 13, as Nacua went for 72 yards, with his longest being 31 yards. While that seemed to be an average game by Nacua’s standards, Carolina has struggled against opposing teams’ WR1s this season. With the Panthers’ passing defense revolving around zone coverage, Sean McVay’s creativity with his offense should give Nacua the openings needed to be a strong presence in the pass game.
Nacua also saw a lot of success this season in the run after the catch. Nacua ranked third in the NFL in yards after the catch this season, sitting only behind Bijan Robinson and Christian McCaffrey. That means that any time Nacua hauls in a reception, he has that much more of an ability to turn it into big yards. While he failed to go higher in each of the last two games, he went five straight weeks with his longest reception being 31 yards or more.
