TJ Tampa Combine Results
To the disappointment of many, TJ Tampa did not participate in the 2024 NFL Combine. We know his draft projection is fairly set, so there wasn’t much pressure for him to participate in the drills. Tampa stated he was dealing with a minor hamstring issue and he wanted to be careful not to aggravate the injury. He did mention that he would participate in Iowa State’s pro day.
At Iowa State’s pro day, Tampa ran the 40-yard dash at 4.52 and 4.55 seconds.
TJ Tampa Scouting Report
Strengths
TJ Tampa is a solid cornerback who excels playing press man coverage. He is solid at jamming receivers on the line and is able to shadow them off the break due to getting them off their route. He can be physical when needed in run support as well. Tampa also has good instincts and has shown he’s able to pick up on trick plays almost immediately. He has shown strength in zone coverage as well as man-to-man.
Weaknesses
The biggest weakness for Tampa is that he doesn’t have the top speed needed to keep up with the speedsters in the NFL vertically. Although he is more than willing to help out, his tackling in run support could be better. In addition to that, he can often get shaken by better route runners and can be late driving on routes. He was solid in man coverage in college, but with his lack of speed, he would fit best in a zone scheme where he is not asked to stick to receivers.
