AFC

The Chiefs, Patriots and Texans all successfully controlled their own destiny on Sunday. The Chiefs beat the Raiders, the Patriots beat the Jets, and the Texans beat the Jaguars to earn the one, two and three seeds respectively. Kansas City and New England are off next week and Houston will host the division rival Colts, in the three vs. six matchup. The Ravens held off a Baker Mayfield comeback to win 26-24 and win the AFC North. The Steelers beat the Bengals 16-13, but are still on the outside looking in. The Chargers defeated the Broncos, but the only way their position would have changed is if the Chiefs lost. Los Angeles will have to visit the fourth-seeded Ravens, who they lost to in Week 16.

Final seeding and matchups:

  1. Kansas City Chiefs– Bye
  2. New England Patriots– Bye
  3. Houston Texans vs 6 Indianapolis Colts
  4. Baltimore Ravens vs 5 Los Angeles Chargers

NFC

The NFC was not as exciting as the AFC because no games came down to the final minute. The Saints wrapped up the one seed in Week 16 and rested most of their star players on Sunday. The Rams dominated the 49ers despite not having Todd Gurley, which clinched the two seed. The Rams win locked the Bears into the three seed, who defeated the Vikings 24-10. The Vikings loss and Eagles win means that the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will have a chance to defend their throne. They are the second straight NFC Champion to be the six seed the following year. The Cowboys clinched the four seed during Week 16 and rested star running back Ezekiel Elliott in a 36-35 victory over the Giants. It was closer than it should have been, but a 27-24 win over the Cardinals clinched the five seed for Seattle.

Final seeding and matchups:

  1. New Orleans Saints– Bye
  2. Los Angeles Rams– Bye
  3. Chicago Bears vs 6 Philadelphia Eagles
  4. Dallas Cowboys vs 5 Seattle Seahawks
