Tennessee vs Michigan Prediction | March Madness Picks and Bracketology
Many college basketball analysts were not sure what version of Tennessee would show up in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. After the prevailing narrative surrounding the SEC champs all week leading up to their Big Dance was that they were seeded too low, some felt that this would negatively impact the team’s performance. This assessment proved to be drastically wrong. After taking Texas A&M out in a body bag in the SEC Tournament title game, the Volunteers did the same thing and then some to Longwood in a 32-point win on Thursday.
Michigan’s First Round contest with Colorado State actually played out much differently. The Wolverines trailed by double-digits in the first half and by seven at the break before dominating the final 20 minutes to win by a dozen. Although the result was an upset based on seed lines, the Wolverines were actually the betting favorites. With Hunter Dickinson serving as a distinct matchup problem for the undersized Rams, the Michigan victory was widely anticipated by many sharp bettors.
Despite giving up size to numerous opponents this season, Rick Barnes’ team has still managed to play a suffocating brand of defense. KenPom ranks the Vols second in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency. Given that both teams rank outside of the top-170 in adjusted tempo, the first handicapping angle to attack here is betting under on the total points.
Bettors should also carefully monitor the status of Michigan point guard DaVante’ Jones who missed Thursday’s game with a concussion. His status could sway a potential ATS prediction one way or the other.
Our college basketball betting Tennessee vs Michigan prediction tonight will be UNDER 136.5 total points at BetUS.
For what it’s worth, the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives Tennessee an 80.6% chance to win.
