It’s the final game of the NFL season and two teams accomplished their goals of making it to the Super Bowl. However, only one will emerge as the Super Bowl champion, and the team’s best performer will likely be named MVP of the game. There are many possible MVP candidates this year, so let’s take a look at where the odds rank these players, as well as look as some of the trends from past Super Bowls.

Possible 49ers MVP Candidates
From the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers emerged as the clear best team, combining an elite defense with a strong running game. They have asked little of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (+300) this postseason, with him attempting only 27 passes. Instead, it has been the running backs doing damage, with Raheem Mostert (+600) and Tevin Coleman (+5000) each having strong games. The offense also features top talent as receivers, with tight end George Kittle (+1300) being the best of the bunch.
Defensively, rookie pass rusher Nick Bosa (+1600) has wrecked havoc this season, totaling 12 sacks (including the playoffs). Cornerback Richard Sherman (+4000) would certainly win the media’s vote, and he has a chance to ruin the game for the Chiefs’ passing attack. Then, there’s linebacker Fred Warner (+8000), who is the brain of the defense and one of the most underrated at his position in the league.
While only naming the most obvious candidates and avoiding all of the possible wide receivers that could pop off and claim the award, we already have listed seven legitimate possibilities to win the Super Bowl MVP, if San Francisco wins, which is what makes this Niners team so difficult to figure out for betting.
Possible Chiefs MVP Candidates
Out of the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs put their explosive offense on full display this postseason, which has them currently favored by 1.5 points, according to MyBookie Sportsbook. Should Kansas City come out on top against the strong 49ers defense, it’s tough to imagine anyone other than Patrick Mahomes (+100) winning MVP, even if there is another offensive player that is slightly more deserving of the honor. However, there are plenty of prolific playmakers on this offense that could easily see multiple touchdowns, including Tyreek Hill (+2000), Travis Kelce (+2000), Damien Williams (+2000) and Mecole Hardman (+4000).
Defense isn’t the Chiefs’ strength by any means, but if there is someone that could make enough game-changing plays to win the award, it would be safety Tyrann Mathieu (+4500). He has recently come up in the box more often to help stuff opposing run games, which will likely be needed again on Sunday. Mathieu is also terrific in the passing game, where he could be asked to shut down star tight end George Kittle, who will likely see plenty of targets. This would increase the number of opportunities for him to make an award-worthy play.
