Suns vs Mavericks Prediction

The Suns appeared to revert to their original defensive game plan on Tuesday night. Other than Luka Doncic (28 points) and Jalen Brunson (21), Phoenix shut down the Mavericks’ offense entirely. Davis Bertans was the only other Dallas player who even managed to crack double figures in the blowout. Meanwhile, Suns center Deandre Ayton had easily his most productive game of the Western Conference Semfiiansl thus far. The question becomes whether or not the former No. 1 overall pick can sustain that high level of play on the road.

If Ayton can provide the offensive boost that he did in Game 5, the Suns have to like their chances of closing out this series on the road tonight. After all, the 30-point win on Tuesday occurred despite Chris Paul only scoring seven points. After back-to-back miserable shooting displays, one has to believe Paul will bounce back and then some in Game 6. That being said, the key to this Suns vs Mavericks prediction figures to be whether Phoenix is able to limit the offensive stats of the Mavs’ role players.

A rise in production from role players when playing at home is not a new phenomenon in the NBA Playoffs. However, the drastic swing between Game 4 in Dallas and Game 5 in Phoenix of this series was truly remarkable. Can Phoenix shut down players like Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie and Maxi Kleber tonight? If the Suns can force Game 6 to become a battle of the stars, one has to like their chances. Without help from the supporting cast, Doncic is simply outnumbered in trying to offset the likes of Paul, Ayton and Devin Booker.

Suns vs Mavericks Prediction: Suns 107, Mavericks 102
