Sun vs Sky WNBA Playoffs Game 2 Betting Preview
Connecticut Sun Preview
Despite finishing just one game behind Las Vegas and Chicago in the final standings, the Sun entered the 2022 WNBA Playoffs as a bit of an afterthought. With all of the talk seemingly revolving around the top two seeds, Connecticut made a big statement by defeating the Sky in Game 1 of their series on Sunday. With a roster that rivals that of the defending champs in terms of depth and experience, the Sun are not to be taken lightly as WNBA betting underdogs.
On Sunday, the Sun utilized a 20-12 third-quarter to take control of the game. It was a back-and-forth affair throughout, but Connecticut did a phenomenal job defensively. A similar performance on Wednesday night could go a long way in deciding the outcome of the Game 2 Sun vs Sky prediction. Connecticut’s balanced attack was also on display in the series-opener. Alyssa Thomas managed to record a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Both DeWanna Bonner (15 points) and Jonquel Jones (12) also came within a single board of their own playoff double-doubles.
Chicago Sky Preview
For the second straight round in these WNBA Playoffs, the Sky have now lost Game 1 at home as significant betting favorites. The last thing Chicago can afford is an 0-2 deficit knowing that both Games 3 and 4 will take place in Connecticut. Thus, Wednesday’s matchup is a critical one for the champs. Given all of their veteran experience and how they responded to losing Game 1 against New York in the First Round, one has to assume that the Sky are capable of bouncing back.
The main concern after Game 1 was the failure of Chicago’s stars to contribute offensively. Candace Parker had a phenomenal game with 19 points, 18 rebounds and five assists for good measure. However, the only other Sky players to crack double figures in scoring were Kahleah Copper (13 points) and Emma Meeseman (10). Those outputs notably fall well short of what each player averaged on a per-game basis this season.

Sun vs Sky Prediction
The Sun are quietly the only remaining playoff team that can claim to have finished top-3 in both offensive and defensive rating during the regular season. Case in point, this is arguably the most balanced team still standing in the WNBA Playoffs. Connecticut’s length at the defensive end certainly got the better of the Sky in Game 1. Now, it’s up to the defending champs to respond.
During the regular season, Chicago led the league in average field goal percentage at 48.1%. In Game 1 on Sunday, the Sky finished well below that mark from the floor at 35.3%. It seems highly unlikely that they will shoot that poorly from the field two games in a row. For that matter, the Sun also shot well below their season average of 46.2% from the field in Game 1.
Despite the anticipation of a rise in both teams’ shooting percentages, there remains a solid argument for playing under the WNBA betting total of 164. When these two teams met in the WNBA Finals last fall, not a single one of the games featured a closing total in excess of 156.5. While the Sun and Sky saw three of their four regular season matchups sail past the over/under line, the difference in defensive intensity between the regular season and the playoffs speaks for itself.
The closing total for Sunday’s series-opener was 167. Thus, the final tally of 131 finished a whopping 36 points below the betting line. Much has been made about the wealth of offensive talent and depth that these two teams possess. At the same time, both squads finished top-four in both scoring defense and defensive rating. It would clearly take a substantially different game script to make up the 33-point difference between Sunday’s tally and tonight’s reduced betting total.
Sun vs Sky Prediction: Under 164 (-105 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
