Steve Avila Draft Profile
Strengths
Steve Avila is a versatile interior offensive lineman, starting at left guard last season and at center the year prior. He made some starts at right tackle as well, but he’s an interior lineman at the NFL level, and a darn good one. Avila is the perfect guard build, with stocky thickness throughout. He brings a ton of power with his 330-pound body, but he also has tremendous get-off and speed like an undersized guard. Avila is balanced in pass protection and snaps his hips to seal off running lanes on the inside.
Weaknesses
All of Avila’s weaknesses can be corrected with the right coaching. He has the tendency to get a bit too tall, his hand placement needs work, and Avila goes for the big hit instead of sticking with blocks at the second level. It feels like Avila owns all of the tools, but needs someone to show him how to put them in the toolbox.
