The good news for the San Francisco 49ers was that they bounced back after a horrendous Super Bowl hangover season in 2024 to improve by six games and finish 12-5 in 2025. The bad news is that not only did they get smacked 41-6 by the rival Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional round, but the Seahawks would also go on to win the Super Bowl. The 49ers are not getting any younger as a team, and time may be running out to finally break their drought of three straight Super Bowl losses. Like with every other team, the first pivotal step on the road to the Lombardi Trophy starts at the NFL Draft.
Here are three San Francisco 49ers draft targets to take with the 27th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Want more draft analysis? Check out our final 2026 NFL Mock Draft here!
San Francisco 49ers Draft Targets at No. 27
Caleb Lomu, OT, Utah
The San Francisco 49ers need a tackle on the offensive line to eventually replace Trent Williams. As luck would have it, the 2026 NFL Draft is absolutely loaded with offensive tackles. While a lot will certainly go early, Caleb Lomu will likely be available at this spot and would be a great option for San Francisco.
The main strength of Lomu is something that you can’t teach, which is his body frame. Once he puts on some more muscle in the NFL, he’ll be even better, especially since he already knows how to use his length to his advantage. He moves well, and he’s incredibly athletic as well. On top of that, Lomu is a strong player who won’t let go once he gets his hands on you. For a team that prides itself on running the football and solid offensive line play, Caleb Lomu will fit right in.
Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri
For a team that has prided itself on its defense and defensive line for a long time, the 49ers do have an odd need for another edge rusher in this upcoming draft. Nick Bosa is still around, but he could certainly use some help generating a pass rush. It’s not common for productive edge rushers to be available this late in the first round, but Missouri standout Zion Young will likely be on the board for the 49ers here.
Young has the build needed to thrive in the NFL. He has a good combination of size, length and strength while also playing mean and aggressive. Many offensive lines struggled to contain him in college, which is part of the reason why he finished tied for 14th in the nation in tackles for loss last season. He also brings a unique ability to be effective against both the passing and running games, which allows him to be an asset no matter the situation. While his consistency could use some work, there are few places better for a defensive player to grow than with the 49ers.
Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona State
Max Iheanachor is a raw product that has all the tools needed to develop into one of the better tackles in the league. Relatively new to football, Iheanachor needs patience and the right coaching to grow into that role, so what better place to learn than in San Francisco with one of the best to ever do it?
At this point in the NFL Draft, the “surefire” picks are all off the board. Especially in the 2026 NFL Draft, where there are fewer skill players of value at the top of boards, getting a player who can start now, even if he may struggle out the gate a little, is still a win. The 49ers know how to develop offensive linemen and Trent Williams has a wealth of knowledge that he could pass down to help Iheanachor as well. Even though nobody likes drafting a player who seems to be more of a long-term investment than a quick payoff, Iheanachor’s massive ceiling makes him a great pick at 27th overall.
