The marquee late-afternoon game on NFL Sunday this week pits a pair of AFC North Division rivals against each other. There is certainly no love lost between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. The same can be said for the rivalry between the two team’s fanbases. Add in the fact that both teams are currently part of a jumbled AFC playoff picture and there is certainly plenty on the line in this Week 13 matchup. The NFL betting odds have tabbed the visitors as moderate favorites ahead of this Ravens vs Steelers divisional battle.

Baltimore Ravens Preview

After topping the Cleveland Browns in an ugly, low-scoring affair last weekend, the Ravens come into this NFL betting matchup sitting atop the AFC standings. Lamar Jackson returned at quarterback last week after missing the previous game with an illness. In reality, Baltimore was very fortunate to emerge victorious in a game that saw Jackson toss four interceptions. It’s hard to imagine that he will get bailed out for a similar performance on Sunday. Prior to last week, the Ravens’ passing attack had largely taken a step forward this season. For the first time in his career, Jackson has three viable weapons to target in receivers Marquise Brown and Rashod Bateman and tight end Mark Andrews.

On the ground, an injury-riddled Ravens backfield has settled on veteran Devonta Freeman as their main man. He has played well recently and should benefit from a surprisingly good matchup against the Steelers’ defense. Speaking of defense, the Ravens will be expected to blitz heavily on Sunday in an effort to expose the weak Steelers’ offensive line. While they should have little trouble stopping what is already a weak rushing attack, Baltimore’s secondary could be in for a challenge trying to cover the bevy of Pittsburgh pass-catchers.

Pittsburgh Steelers Preview

Week 12 is one that the Steelers would like to soon forget. For the second straight game, Pittsburgh’s defense gave up over 40 points. The fact that last week’s performance resulted in a blowout loss to another AFC North Division rival in the Cincinnati Bengals only made it tougher to stomach. At 5-5-1 entering Sunday’s NFL betting tilt, many are questioning which direction the Steelers will ultimately trend down the stretch of the season. While aging quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been inconsistent and the Steelers’ defense very underwhelming, Mike Tomlin has a knack for getting 110% out of the personnel at his disposal.

After last week’s horrendous showing, the Steelers now rank 27th in adjusted defensive efficiency on the year. With cornerback Joe Haden already having been ruled out again this week, slowing down Lamar Jackson and the now versatile Ravens on Sunday could prove challenging. It will be up to Roethlisberger and the passing game on offense as Pittsburgh’s offensive line figures to be thoroughly overmatched. Expect wideout Diontae Johnson and running back Najee Harris to again be the main targets. If Baltimore brings pressure as expected, Roethlisberger will be forced to get the ball out quickly.
