As the Super Bowl comes around, there are a number of factors that we are looking forward to. Whether it be wanting to see Patrick Mahomes win his third straight Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show or the Eagles move the ball using the tush push, there is one thing that is certain. Everyone wants to see Super Bowl records being broken.
With Super Bowl veterans like Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Harrison Butker playing in yet another game, there are certainly opportunities for records, both single game and career, to be broken this year. In fact, Butker set a new Super Bowl record last year!
The following article delves into five Super Bowl records that could possibly be broken in Super Bowl LIX.
Predicting 5 Super Bowl Records Broken in 2025
Most Career Points Scored in the Super Bowl
The existing Super Bowl record for the most career points scored is the great Jerry Rice, with 48 points. In his four-game Super Bowl career, Rice recorded eight touchdowns. Sitting 11 points behind Rice is current Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, at 37 points.
Through four Super Bowls, Butker has nailed nine field goals and 10 extra point attempts. In order for Butker to break the record this year, the Chiefs offense will have to be at its best. The thing going in favor of Butker and breaking this record is the Philadelphia Eagles’ strong red zone defense. If the Eagles are able to hold the Chiefs’ offense, we know that Andy Reid is not afraid to trot Butker out. I mean, last season, Butker broke the record for the longest field goal made in Super Bowl history.
Yes, 12 points is a lot for a kicker to score, especially in a Super Bowl. But given Kansas City’s offense, partnered with the Eagles’ strong red zone defense, 12 points is certainly not out of the realm for Butker.
Most Receptions in Super Bowl Career
Another record from Jerry Rice is very likely to be broken in Super Bowl LIX. Rice has stood alone as the leader for most receptions, with 33, in a Super Bowl career for more than 25 years. That record finally looks like it is coming to an end, as Travis Kelce enters this year’s Super Bowl with 31 career receptions.
While Kelce certainly had a down year by his standards, he has become much more involved when it has come to the playoffs. He has nine receptions over the two games. It is realistic to believe that Kelce brings in three receptions to break Rice’s career record. This is a Super Bowl record that could also be broken within the first couple minutes of the games, as it is likely that he sees at least two targets on the Chiefs’ first drive.

Most Consecutive Super Bowl Wins
Maybe the biggest story surrounding the Super Bowl this season is the Kansas City Chiefs’ journey to winning their third straight Super Bowl. They currently are tied for the number one spot on this record, with the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers (2x), San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.
Even though the Green Bay Packers won three NFL championships in a row twice, there has been no team that has ever won three Super Bowls in a row (three straight years). Even in what many people thought was a down year for the Kansas City Chiefs, they still finished the regular season with a 15-1 record. This era’s Chiefs team is already one of the best dynasties in NFL history, so to solidify it with a three-peat would be the cherry on top.
The Chiefs opened the Super Bowl as 1.5-point favorites, so if it is any indication, Vegas thinks that we are going to see a three-peat.
Most Career Rushing Touchdowns by a Quarterback
In his second Super Bowl appearance, Jalen Hurts has the opportunity to set the all-time rushing touchdown record by a quarterback. In the previous matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts went nuclear and set the record for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in the Super Bowl, with three. His three rushing touchdowns now rank second all-time by quarterbacks in the big game. John Elway currently holds the record for the most, with four.
With Hurts totaling 29 rushing touchdowns over the past two regular seasons, it is not crazy to think that he sees at least one rushing touchdown in this game. On top of that, given that the Eagles often play conservatively with the tush push in short-yardage situations, I think that we can see a couple of touchdown rushing attempts from Hurts.
Most Fumbles in Super Bowl Career
While breaking Super Bowl records is often seen as a great feat, some records are much worse than others. Another record that could be broken in this game is the most career fumbles in Super Bowl history. Over his four Super Bowl games, Patrick Mahomes has fumbled the ball four times. He has recovered all four of his fumbles but he now stands in second behind Tom Brady and Roger Staubach for the most fumbles in a Super Bowl career.
We know that Patrick Mahomes is going to play a little hero ball in this game. While this strategy has worked out in the Chiefs’ favor, it sometimes turns into fumbles. Luckily for Mahomes, he has not turned the ball over in these situations. But given what we have seen from the Eagles’ defense this season, you have to think that a point of emphasis is to get after the ball on broken plays. With Zack Baun and Cooper DeJean’s success in the playoffs this season, all it takes is two Mahomes fumbles to hold the all-time Super Bowl career record for fumbles.
