Colgate advances to the NCAA Tournament

Patriot League Basketball Breakdown

This season, the Patriot League was split into three divisions — the North, Central and South. This tournament is one of the most unknown in college basketball, due to the minimal amount of games that were played. These schools are in the same conference but each team only played against a handful of teams within the conference. Bucknell only played Lehigh (4x), Navy (2x) and American (2x).

Boston U is coming off a win the 2020 Patriot League conference tournament. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were unable to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. Even though they are the two seed, it seems likely that Colgate are the favorites to win the tournament. The Raiders are the second highest scoring team in the country (85.7 PPG), only behind Gonzaga. Navy will look to slow down Colgate with their defense. Navy averages eight blocks and just over two steal a game.

The Patriot League preseason poll was very different than the final rankings, only correctly predicting Colgate at two and Bucknell at six. The biggest overachiever, in relation to the preseason rankings, was Navy (projected fourth and finished first). The biggest underachiever, in relation to the preseason rankings, was Boston U (projected first and finished seventh).
