Non-Playoff NFL Team Seasons in Review | Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have dashed many hopes and dreams since that AFC Championship game three years ago. They have gone from the top-four to being THE WORST team in the NFL. This couldn’t have started any better for the Jaguars. It was all downhill from there, unless winning the tank battle for the number one overall draft pick counts.

Jacksonville Jaguars Open Season With Win

“Sacksonville” started off surprising everyone by beating the Colts.  This would be the peak of their season until Week 15. The Jaguars narrowly lost to Tennessee the following Sunday, and then got blown out on Thursday night by the Dolphins in Week 3.

Next up, a loss to Joe Burrow and the building Cincinnati Bengals. Pathetic.  Then you follow that up with losses to three teams who are in the top 13 draft picks in the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and the Los Angeles Chargers. Furthermore, every single one of those games was a double digit loss!

Gardner Minshew Injury Leads to Jacksonville Jaguars QB Carousel

If there was any hope left in the season, it was lost when starting quarterback Gardner Minshew got hurt and had to sit out.  The smart choice was picking Jake Luton in to start to see what they have in him.  Luton almost helped the Jags force OT against the Texans which showed he may have something for this league.

The next week the Jags somehow were competing with the number one team in the Green Bay Packers, even having a lead in the fourth quarter until Aaron Rodgers found Davante Adams to retake the lead and that would pretty much be all she wrote.  The Luton experiment died against the Steelers after he threw four interceptions and the Jaguars walked out with yet another loss.

Jaguars Enter Full Tank Mode Down the Stretch

The smartest decision Doug Marone made all year was starting Mike Glennon.  This way you can go full tank mode and get the best draft pick possible.  Glennon played well enough to keep the Jags in the game against the Browns and helped them force overtime against the Vikings, but then he played like trash against the Titans.

This prompted Marrone to give Minshew another chance.  That all went out the window quickly as Jacksonville got thrashed by the Ravens, but elsewhere there was hope.  The Jets beat the Rams that same week, giving the Jaguars the number one draft slot for the time being.

The Ravens game might have been Minshew’s last game as a Jaguar as Mike Glennon finished out the season to ensure the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.  Oh my, someone play “Ode to Joy”! The Jaguars won the Trevor Lawrence lottery and Doug Marrone was fired.
