The yearly tradition of asking if Aaron Rodgers will play next NFL season is back. However, this time we have a new twist. The New York Jets have said they do not have plans to bring the future Hall of Famer back, leading to many brainstorming the next possible Aaron Rodgers team destinations.
The NFL Free Agency period will be complicated because there aren’t many Aaron Rodgers destinations that make much sense. A team should want to go “all in” to win a Super Bowl while also not having an answer at quarterback. Now, the Los Angeles Rams are trying to trade Matthew Stafford while the Atlanta Falcons are likely moving on from Kirk Cousins. One would think teams interested in Rodgers would also be interested in Stafford or Cousins, limiting the landing spots even more.
There may be a bit of musical chairs this offseason as well. However, with all of this in mind, here are the next possible Aaron Rodgers teams ranked. FlurrySports has more Power Rankings articles here.
Next Aaron Rodgers Team Destinations Ranked | NFL Free Agency
Minnesota Vikings
Time is a flat circle. After a long, successful career with the Green Bay Packers, the team’s media spun a story to kick Brett Favre out. He would play for the Jets for a season before joining the Minnesota Vikings. For Aaron Rodgers, the exact same thing happened, except he spent two years (one full season) with the Jets.
There are plenty of rumors stating the Las Vegas Raiders will offer a bunch of money to Sam Darnold. So, the Minnesota Vikings have their young quarterback waiting in the shadows (JJ McCarthy) while also having a roster that can contend now. Not only does this make perfect sense for Rodgers, but the Vikings also can continue with their plan, developing McCarthy for a few years before making him the starter.
For what it is worth, head coach Kevin O’Connell does have a small history with Aaron Rodgers as well. It appears the two would get along, the offensive fit is there, and Rodgers gets to renew his rivalry with the Chicago Bears.
Tennessee Titans
Make no mistake, the Tennessee Titans earned the first overall draft pick. However, they were far from the worst team in the league last season. Rather, they just had the worst quarterback play of any team. If they can improve the offensive line and sign Rodgers, then this is a team that can immediately win the AFC South.
A couple of years ago, many places rumored the next Aaron Rodgers team to be Tennessee, due to him buying land there. It’s possible those guesses were just early, not wrong. As long as they commit to improving the offensive line, Tennessee should be legitimately considered to land a veteran quarterback this offseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The team with the most quarterback questions over the past year is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired, the Steelers have seemingly been a quarterback away from being a legitimate threat. Last season, they rostered two previous starters: Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. Fast forward to now, and we have no idea if either will be back.
If the Steelers also feel like they are a competent quarterback away from contending, then signing Rodgers and drafting a rookie quarterback to sit and learn is the way to go. Rodgers gets to play on grass and in the cold, and he also gets to play for Mike Tomlin. There is a great deal of mutual respect between the two.
Los Angeles Rams
If the Los Angeles Rams are successful in trading away Matthew Stafford, it would make sense for them to draft a young quarterback, and then sign a veteran to take control for a season or two. The Rams are also interested in trading away Cooper Kupp. Out goes Stafford and Kupp, in comes Rodgers and Davante Adams. It really does make sense, and the two would get to head back to California to play ball.
Las Vegas Raiders
If the Las Vegas Raiders miss out on Darnold, it appears they do want to bring in a veteran, and likely draft Will Howard or another non-first-round quarterback to develop. The issue here is that a lot needs to change in order to make this Aaron Rodgers destination enticing. The offensive line is bad, the weapons are bad, and the division they play in is bad news.
New York Giants
The only “pro” going for Aaron Rodgers signing with the New York Giants is that they play in the same place as the Jets. So, Rodgers wouldn’t need to pick up and move again, and he is already ingratiated with the area. However, their offensive line is terrible and they are a rebuilding franchise.
