Mid Major Notes

  • Wyoming opens up conference play with a fantastic win over San Diego State. SDSU has been very inconsistent so far this season. Nevada also opened up conference play on a great note over the very dangerous Fresno State Bulldogs. The Wolf Pack went to Fresno to win by 15.
  • Hartford upsets Rutgers in comeback fashion to reach .500 on the season.
  • UNI falls to Southern Illinois at home. SIU has caught fire lately to find themselves towards the top of the MVC. Then, UNI was held to 53 points in a 19-point loss to Bradley, who has risen lately.
  • SF Austin takes a crushing loss in Southland play after they seemed like they were going to easily dominate the league.
  • In an interesting C-USA matchup, Western Kentucky wins by one over rival LTech, who dropped out of the top-25.
  • UT Arlington shocked me a little bit with a loss to Coastal Carolina by 25 points. UT Arlington was the clear favorite to win the Sun Belt. Georgia State also suffered a bad loss in conference play to Southern Alabama by 22. Then, UT Arlington shocked me again falling to App State.
  • Oakland was supposed to run through the Horizon League, but they had a slip up losing by one point to Green Bay. Still watch out for the Golden Grizzles to be towards the top of the mid majors with all the talent they possess.
  • Grand Canyon falls to Illinois by four in a game they led the majority of.
  • Charleston takes out Towson for the lead in the CAA. Also, William & Mary has put together a solid non-conference resume to now find themselves sitting towards the top of the CAA. Later in the week, Elon won a great game versus Towson to also join many teams at the top of the conference. The CAA looks to be very competitive this season.
  • Portland State was sitting pretty starting Big Sky play, but they dropped a game to Sacremento State.
  • Boise State jumps New Mexico State for #1 as they went to UNLV to run over the Running Rebels. Chandler Hutchinson is playing on a new level as a leader for the Broncos. Hutchinson is averaging 17 points a game and he dropped 32 in the big win over UNLV.
  • Northern Colorado remains in the top-25 after holding off the very good Idaho Vandals by four.
  • Missouri State enters the top-25 at a very high #12 after they beat Valpo by 17. A loss a few weeks ago to Oral Roberts really hurt them, which is why they have stayed outside of the top-25.
  • Central Michigan moves up once again after another impressive win over Ohio by 25.
