Track position is at a premium at Pocono Raceway in the Next Gen era, where the preferred racing groove leaves little room for drivers to work around slower traffic effectively. With that in mind, Saturday’s NASCAR qualifying results carry added significance ahead of the Great American Getaway 400.
One additional note for fans planning their viewing — the NASCAR Cup Series race start time has been moved up two hours to 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday due to late afternoon rains being forecasted in the Pocono Mountains.
The following shares the official starting grid for Sunday’s race, along with Pocono Raceway track details and key observations from NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying.

Official Great American Getaway 400 Starting Lineup
It was 20 years ago this week that Denny Hamlin celebrated his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway. He has accumulated six more wins at the Tricky Triangle since then. On Sunday, he will attempt to win for the third week in a row and take over sole possession of ninth on the all-time series wins list.
Hamlin’s quest for a three-peat got off to a strong start on Saturday. For the third week in a row, he topped the NASCAR qualifying results and was the only driver to break the 52-second barrier on his lap. Of course, Hamlin has had to come from the rear to win the last two weeks. Fortunately for the No. 11 team, no such adjustments appear imminent this time around.
With a time trial run of 51.948 seconds, Hamlin finished over half a tenth better than qualifying runner-up, Kyle Larson. The two will share the front row on Sunday’s starting grid. Row 2 will also feature a Chevrolet and a Toyota with Daniel Suarez in third and Ty Gibbs in fourth.

NASCAR Great American Getaway 400 Practice and Qualifying Notes
- Joe Gibbs Racing maintained its status as the team to beat in Saturday’s NASCAR qualifying results. Along with Denny Hamlin on the pole, Ty Gibbs and Chase Briscoe give JGR three of the top five starting spots.
- Toyota secured half of the top-10 spots on the grid in qualifying. Both Legacy Motor Club cars will start near the front with Erik Jones seventh and John Hunter Nemechek eighth.
- Despite qualifying second, Kyle Larson will not have the benefit of pit stall selection for the race after the No. 5 car failed pre-race inspection twice.
- Bubba Wallace spun out and crashed into the inside wall in the early stages of his qualifying attempt. He will be starting from the rear on Sunday, and will likely do so in a backup car.
- Carson Hocevar flirted with being the first driver to beat the 52-second threshold in the NASCAR qualifying results until he spun off Turn 2. His right rear hit the outside wall, so he will drop to the rear on the grid after the team repairs the damage.
- Brad Keselowski had engine trouble on his qualifying lap and will be mired deep on the grid as a result.
- Christopher Bell managed to qualify 22nd on the heels of last week’s high-impact crash at Michigan.
- Kyle Larson led the field in practice speed at 170.706 mph. He was also the fastest in ten consecutive lap average at 168.085 mph.
- Denny Hamlin, Daniel Suarez, Carson Hocevar and Chris Buescher rounded out the top five in terms of fastest practice lap speeds.
- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spun out during the practice session but did not hit anything.
