After the NFL season ended, there were reports of a Myles Garrett trade request from the Cleveland Browns. Garrett has been one of the best players in the NFL since his debut in the league. Over his past eight years in the NFL, Garrett has already put together a Hall of Fame career, totaling 102.5 sacks and one Defensive Player of the Year award. With the Browns seemingly having no solid plan for their future, it makes sense to move Garrett now and get as much as possible for him.
A trade involving Garrett might be tough, given the Browns’ cap situation, but anyone looking to trade for Garrett will be sure to make it work, given his success in the NFL. With that being said, here are three possible Myles Garrett trade destinations.
3 Possible Myles Garrett Trade Destinations
Detroit Lions
Last season, the Detroit Lions were one of the best teams in the NFL, given their historic offensive production. The year wasn’t right though, as the Lions were decimated with injuries, especially on the defensive side of the ball come playoffs. Even healthy though, the defense was opportunistic but not elite. Adding a superstar talent like Garrett should help add spark to a pass rush that could be in need given Aiden Hutchinson’s injury last season. Creating a duo with Garrett and Hutchinson, when he is healthy, instantly becomes the best in the entire league.
After losing both of their coordinators, bringing in Garrett seems like a great transition to welcome Kelvin Sheppard into his new role on the defense. This is a situation where a team that fell short of the Super Bowl can add a superstar to help get them over the hump.
Washington Commanders
In a similar fashion to the Detroit Lions, I think having the Washington Commanders try to land Garrett should help a team that was short of the Super Bowl get over the hump. If you remember a couple of years back, Washington’s franchise was built on their defensive line. But outside of that, there was nothing else to really support the team. Now, the Commanders have their quarterback, receiving weapons and head coach, on top of a new owner. The team probably overperformed last season, but with what we saw out of Jayden Daniels, we can say that Washington is one of the better teams in the NFC.
Jon Allen and Daron Payne are still in town, but Dante Fowler, who enjoyed a 10-sack season last year, could leave during NFL Free Agency. Bringing in Garrett to replace Fowler is a major upgrade and will help to bring that defensive line back to prominence. With what we saw from Dan Quinn and Micah Parsons together in Dallas, I think partnering Quinn with Garrett is a great experiment.
Philadelphia Eagles
While this is probably the least likely of the three teams on the list of potential Myles Garrett trade destinations, adding a premier NFL player to the Super Bowl champions would be game-breaking. We know that Howie Roseman likes to make big splashes. This includes draft trades as well as acquiring top-tier NFL talent, like Saquon Barkley and AJ Brown. In an effort to go back-to-back, adding one of the best players in the entire league seems like a great idea.
It would probably mean that they have to part ways with someone like Jordan Carter, but in pursuit of someone like Garrett, business decisions have to be made. The Philadelphia Eagles are already the best team in the NFL and have the best defense in the league. As we have seen in other sports, like Kevin Durant to the Warriors and Freddie Freeman to the Dodgers, bringing in a superstar to an already incredible lineup pays off in huge ways.
