The spotlight game of Wednesday night’s NBA action pits a pair of Western Conference contenders against one another. After an amazing performance in his last game out, Luka Doncic will lead the Dallas Mavericks against Donovan Mitchell and the red-hot Utah Jazz. The NBA betting experts and NBA odds for the game offer a slim edge to the home team.

Mavericks vs Jazz NBA Betting Overview

    Mavericks Outlook

The Mavericks have been just one of many teams to struggle early on thanks to virus-related absences. For as good a player as Luka Doncic is, it’s tough for even him to make up for so much lost production. Of course, he is coming off one of the highlight performances in the NBA betting season to date in which he dropped a line of 35 points, 16 assists, 11 rebounds, four steals and one block on Monday.

The Mavericks figure to benefit from a handful of returning players on Wednesday. Among them are Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell and Josh Richardson. Whether or not it’s enough to put them over the edge on the road against the red-hot Jazz is another story. Dallas does enjoy a rest advantage in this NBA betting matchup.

    Mavericks Injury Report
    • Out: Maxi Kleber (virus)
    • Questionable: Dwight Powell (virus), Dorian Finney-Smith (virus), Josh Richardson (virus)

    Jazz Outlook

The Jazz come into Wednesday’s NBA betting showcase as the hottest team in the Association. A comeback win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday extended Utah’s winning streak to nine games. The Jazz have quietly been putting the pieces in place to pose a threat in the Western Conference. While it hasn’t translated to postseason success just yet, it’s hard to argue that they are more equipped than ever to make a run this season.

Donovan Mitchell has been brilliant for the Jazz in the early portion of the 2020-21 NBA betting season. Despite their go-to star had an off-night on Tuesday against the Knicks, Utah found plenty of production from other players to pull out the win. Mike Conley looks much more comfortable in his second season in Salt Lake City, while Rudy Gobert and Royce O’Neale form one of the NBA’s strongest big man tandems. Jordan Clarkson has been shooting the lights out this season and is just one reason why the Jazz lead the NBA with 16.6 average made 3-pointers per game.

    Jazz Injury Report
    • Out: Elijah Hughes (ankle), Trent Forrest (virus)

Mavericks vs Jazz NBA Betting Trends

    • Jazz 2020-21 Betting Trends: 12-5 ATS; 7-10 to the Over

    • The Jazz are 11-4 SU and 10-5 ATS as a favorite this season.

Mike Conley Total Assists: Under 5.5 (-132 at Bovada Sportsbook)

Mike Conley’s game has seen a major improvement in year two of his tenure in Utah. This has translated in all areas of the stat sheet. Conley has produced across the board, averaging 14.9 points, 5.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals. While tonight’s NBA betting line of 5.5 total assists for Conley is a hair below his season average, I lean to the Under on this NBA player prop.

The Jazz are one of the best teams in the league in terms of ball movement. Don’t believe me? Just ask Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who orchestrated perhaps the best passing teams in NBA history during the Warriors dynasty years. Conley is a major facilitator of this ball movement from the point guard position, but numerous other players are capable of handing out assists as well. In Tuesday’s win over the Knicks, Conley was one of six Jazz players with multiple dimes. In the second leg of a back-to-back, there’s a chance Utah players are a bit sluggish tonight as well. Take the Under on Conley’s NBA betting total assists prop.
