Going into the eighth inning of Mariners vs Astros Game 1 with a 7-3 lead, it looked as if the Seattle Mariners were going to steal a road game and immediately put the Houston Astros on their backfoot. Instead, the Astros scored five over the last two innings, capped off by a three-run Yordan Alvarez bomb to right to steal Game 1 8-7. Can the Mariners recover and bounce back in Game 2, or will the Astros push the Mariners into an even deeper hole?

Seattle Mariners Preview
It looked as if the postseason magic would continue into the ALDS until they blew a late lead in Game 1. The big question will be whether they can bounce back. Not only did they lose out on a chance to take back home field advantage, but they also put themselves in line for a possible 2-0 hole. For a team who hasn’t been in the playoffs in over 20 years, that could be something they can’t come back from.
The one piece of good news for the Mariners is that Luis Castillo takes the mound in Game 2. Castillo was magnificent in the Wild Card round against the Toronto Blue Jays. Castillo went 7 1/3 innings and gave up six hits and no runs. It seems impossible to replicate that performance against this Astros team but they need him to at least eat up a fair amount of innings again to have a chance with the way their bullpen looked in Game 1.
Houston Astros Preview
For as bad as the Astros looked for most of Game 1, they found a way to win. The Astros were down to their last strike on two different occasions and found a way to fight back each time. One game doesn’t usually determine a series, but it very well may with the Astros now having a chance to go to Seattle with a 2-0 series lead.
The bats for Houston did their jobs and did well against a good starting pitcher in Logan Gilbert. Justin Verlander had one of his worst postseason starts of all time in Game 1. As long as Framber Valdez puts in a performance a little better than that, their bats should be able to carry them to another win.
