Joey Porter Jr. Draft Profile
Strengths
Joey Porter Jr. is an extremely physical cornerback that is relentless in run support. Porter does a great job getting off of blocks and is arguably the best open-field tackler among all defensive backs in this draft. He is a ball hawk who flies toward the ball. While he didn’t force any turnovers this year, much of that was due to him not being tested much. He breaks on the ball well and makes every catch tough for receivers.
Weaknesses
Physicality is necessary in the NFL, but Porter sometimes gets himself into trouble as he is late in disengaging on jams in press coverage. Porter is also a little slow at changing directions, which can make him susceptible to double moves. When he isn’t playing press, he gives receivers too much space on slant or drag routes over the middle, which can lead to an easy catch and turn for the receiver.
