Damiere Byrd’s fantasy performance over the past couple weeks has people talking. On Monday Night Football in Week 4, he totaled five receptions for 80 yards. This performance would’ve been even better, if he had even an average showing from the quarterback position, with Cam Newton’s absence. Still, his 10 targets in the game has many wondering if Byrd is a viable fantasy option going forward and if he should be a Week 5 fantasy waiver wire pickup.
Damiere Byrd Fantasy Outlook | Fantasy Waiver Wire
Byrd has also shown good chemistry with regular starting quarterback Newton as well. He had nine targets against Seattle in Week 2 and was able to haul six of those in for 72 yards. His numbers may not jump off the page, but he is posting solid, consistent numbers even without finding the end zone. Byrd is a solid bench stash in deep leagues, so he is worth a fantasy waiver wire pickup. He could even be a FLEX play, if you are desperate.
If Julian Edelman were to get injured, his ceiling would only increase. Put Byrd should be on your team’s watchlist, or make him a fantasy waiver wire add in deeper leagues.
In fantasy football, it’s often nice to have big names on your team. It’s a badge of pride to be able to brag to your friends about who you have and how good your team is. In this season though, with all the injuries and COVID-19 implications, it’s more important than ever to have consistency and depth. While Byrd may not be a guy you get a lot of credit for, he could turn out to be one of those sneaky fantasy waiver wire adds that only grows in value and finds himself on most teams in the fantasy playoffs at the end of the year.
